Elderly adults who regularly drink green tea may stay more active and independent than their peers over time, according to a Japanese study that covered thousands of people.
Green tea contains antioxidant chemicals that may help ward off the cell damage that can lead to disease.Researchers have been studying green tea's effect on everything from cholesterol(胆固醇)to the risk of certain cancers, with mixed results so far.
For the new Japanese study, researchers decided to examine the question of whether green tea drinkers have a lower risk of frailty and disability as they grow older.
Tomata and his colleagues followed nearly 14,000 adults aged 65 or older for three years. They found those who drank the most green tea were the least likely to develop “functional disability”,or problems with daily activities or basic needs, such as dressing or bathing.
Specifically, almost 13 percent of adults who drank less than a cup of green tea per day became functionally disabled, compared with just over 7 percent of people who drank at least five cups fl day.
The study did not prove that green tea alone kept people active as they grew older.
Green-tea lovers generally had healthier diets, including more fish, vegetables and fruit,as well as more education.lower smoking rates, fewer heart attacks and strokes, and greater mental sharpness.
They also tended to be more socially active and have more friends and family to rely on. Although it's not clear how green tea might offer a buffer(缓冲剂)against disability,Tomata's team did note that one recent study found green tea extracts(提炼物)seem to increase leg muscle strength in older women.
While green tea and its extracts are considered safe in small amounts, they do contain caffeine and small amounts of vitamin K,which means it could block drugs that prevent blood thickened.

American researchers have developed a technique that may become an important tool in fighting AIDS virus from attacking its target-cells in the body's defense system. When AIDS virus enters the blood,it searches for blood cells called T4 lymphocytes(淋巴细胞).The virus connects to the outside of T4 lymphocytes. Then it forces its way inside. There it directs the cells' genetic material to produce copies of the AIDS virus. This is how AIDS spreads.
Researchers think they may be able to stop AIDS from connecting to T4 ceils. When AIDS virus finds a T4 cell,it actually connects to a part of the cell called CD4 protein.
Researchers want to fool the virus by putting copies or clones of the CD4 protein into the blood. This way the AIDS virus will connect to cloned protein instead of the real ones.Scientists use genetic engineering methods to make the clones.Normally a CD4 protein remains on the T4 cell at all times;the AIDS virus must go to it.
In a new technique, however, the cloned CD4 protein is not connected to a cell.It floats freely,so a lot more can be put into the blood to keep the AIDS virus away from real CD4 protein on T4 cells. One report says the.AIDS virus connects to cloned protein just as effectively as it connects to real protein. That report was based on tests with blood cells grown in labs. The technique is just now beginning to be tested in animals. If successful,it may be tested in humans within a year.
71.The new technique can . A.cure AIDS
B.kill the AIDS virus
D.produce new anti-AIDS cells
C.prevent the AIDS virus from spreading A.itself
B.the blood cells
D.the genetic material of T4 lymphocytes

Now, people’s life in rural areas is becoming better and better. However, there are some problems worth our concern.
Very often we come across rubbish thrown here and there. No dustbins, no cleaners. Additionally, few amusements are available. Worse still , some children, especially those whose parents work outside, have formed bad habits due to lack of care.
So effective measures must be taken to solve those problems. First, it is necessary for the government to develop a cleaning system to beautify the rural areas, where more dustbins and
cleaners are needed. Another is to organize more activities to make people’s life colorful. Last but not least, some organizations should be set up to help look after the children.
I’m fully convinced that only by doing small things with universal love, we’ll make our country more beautiful and harmonious.

W: Going to pass the driving test, don’t you? M: I’d better! (Text 2)
W: Do you think we should paint our bedroom yellow or light blue? M: Why not pink? (Text 3)
M: I’d like to know some information about Mr. Smith.
W: Well. He was born in Scotland and educated in England. He has worked in Sweden since 2000. M: That’s amazing. (Text 4)
M: A car rushed toward me and I jumped aside just in time. It was really a narrow escape. W: Well, it was very dangerous indeed. (Text 5)
W: Who is it ?
M: The gasman. I’ve come to read the gas meter, Madam. W: Do you have an ID card?
M: Sure. Just a minute, it’s here or somewhere. (Text 6)
M: Have you found something you like?
W: Yes, I really like this refrigerator! I’ve always wanted one like it. M: Anything else, Madam? W: I like that dishwasher, too.
M: It is also on sale. They are of good quality and sell well. W: Can I get a better price if I buy both items?

M: I don’t know. What was the other school you mentioned? W: Southeastern? M: Yeah, what’s it like?
W: Well, it’s a very old, well-established school. Students who are looking for parties should probably look somewhere else.

W: It’s an old school. Let me see. Southeastern University…established in 1854. (Text 10)
W: And now it’s over to Bill Casey for the latest news from Germany on the World Cup.
M: Hi, good evening, Jenny. Well, it was an exciting afternoon in Berlin today as England played Spain in the second World Cup semifinal. Spain got off to a good start with a goal by Miguel Garcia in the 5th minute of play. England came back in the 20th minute with a goal by Roland Lockhart and at halftime the teams were tied with on goal each. In the second half, it was all Spain. Juan Salazar scored in the 45th minute and Felipe Gonzalez gave Spain a twogoal lead in the 50th. England cut the lead to one in the 67th minute with a goal by Paul Gregson, but that was as close as England would get. Lockhart almost scored his second goal of the game in the 89th minute, but his shot hit the crossbar and was picked up by the Spanish goalkeeper. Thanks to its 3 to 2 win, Spain now goes on to the final against Argentina.
