每个原因值对应的诊断信息详见建议Q.850。诊断字段是可选项，不是每个原因都有可用的诊断信息。

进展指示信息单元的用途是描述呼叫进展阶段所发生的事件。

Q.931协议规定了通过用户－网络接口传递的、用于电路方式连接控制的消息，规定了每个消息的结构，定义了每个消息在呼叫控制过程中的功能。
在Q.931协议中，每个消息由以下几部分组成：协议鉴别语、呼叫参考、消息类型、其他信息单元。其中前三个信息单元是每个消息所必需的，而其他信息单元对每个消息来说是特定的。
