Hanging

For many years, hanging Putong and Aicao during this time is believed, both by the ancient Chinese people and the modern ones, to be a great method (方法) to drive away bad luck and diseases. Teresa Tsai, a 13-year-old girl, has been in a very uncomfortable situation these days, feeling unwilling (不情愿) to go to school and refusing the pocket money from her parents. That’s probably because she was suffering the school bully (校园欺凌). Just like Teresa, many young Chinese students are having the same problems. They may feel nauseous, lonely, unwilling to communicate and so on. What’s worse, they may even want to kill themselves to get away from the bad situation.

School bully often happens between school children aged from 8 to 18 in the students’ daily life. And it has become a serious social problem across the country. School bullies may come in many different reasons: they may happen just because someone is searching for “fresh and new” feelings; or THEY may just come out of no reasons; or big guys just want to do it.

After a large number of reports and a careful research on the further reasons of school bully, many experts say that being short of (缺乏) parents’ love and guidance may be the main cause for this social problem. And the “easy-to-let-go” punishment policy is believed to be another hand pushing the situation far and serious.

How can we deal with school bully? Unlike China’s “easy-to-let-go” punishment policy or Word Education, many other developed countries, including the US and the UK, have made very strict and systematical laws to stop school bully. After reported by the local TVs and radios, 3 Chinese girls, studying in the US, who bullied one of their classmates very brutally and seriously, have paid an enormous price for their behavior. They are going to prison—a lifetime sentence.

Fortunately, school bully, thanks to the continuous reports, is getting more and more attention from all the society in China. Different helping hot lines have been set up and more mental guidance helping centers in different schools are having more visitors.

Moreover, Premier Li Keqiang has just publicly called out for the fast and immediate actions to stop school bully. After which, we have every reason to believe that there will be less school bully and more happy Teresas in China.

How do you usually go to school: walk, cycle, take a bus or drive?

Most people know that students who go to school by bus or car are more likely to put on weight than those who walk or cycle. But did you know that exercising less could also make you fall behind in your schoolwork?

Two Danish universities recently carried out a study of 19, 527 students between the ages of 5 and 19. The students were asked how they traveled to school and were then given a test. It was found that the students who were driven to school, or took a bus, performed worse in the test because they had poorer concentration (集中注意力) than those who took a more active way.

“As a third-grade pupil, if you exercise and cycle to school, your ability (能力) to concentrate increases to the equivalent (同等) of someone half a year further in their studies,” said Niels Egelund, a member of the study.

Depending too much on cars is also a problem for adults. British people are much lazier these days. They are walking 80 miles less every year than ten years ago, a new study found.

“This creates a huge illness problem and lowers their quality of life, but most people don’t seem to know that it’s a problem,” said Harry Rutter from the National Obesity Observatory, the UK. “Being short of physical activity is the fourth main cause of early deaths around the world and causes about the same level of ill health that smoking does.”

In this way Lana opened a 86 for people around the world to see China’s capital through the innocent eyes of her little girl Maria Trabulsi.

Maria Trabulsi moved to Beijing with her parents 87 she was 7 months old, and has lived here ever since. Her family, however, is moving 88 to the USA at the end of June, leaving the city where she keeps all her memories in her very short life. “I’m a Beijinger. She likes the busy streets and the quiet hutong; her black-haired Chinese friends and the American-system kindergarten; various snacks and traditional festivals-basically every part of life in Beijing, from the traditional to the 90 . Friendly, cheerful, precious, fun, charming, legendary, lovely-in these words Lana and Maria describe the city in the book, which describes 10 different typical scenes in this city with only 165 English words.

Lana writes in a way that a lot of people can relate to (关联): Experts can connect it to their experience, Beijingers can enjoy that 91 else likes their city and culture, other Chinese people who don’t know Beijing can learn 92 the city, and so can people who don’t know China at all. “I did put all my feelings into this book. I 93 it with love,” says Lana.
