My day starts at 5:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time when I turn on my computer and start listeningto CNBC on television. I start my real time quote and news programs, and look for anythingexciting on the news ticker or CNBC. I will open my communications software to be ready totrade. I place all the stocks that I am interested in on my quote screen, and watch their patterns oftrading. I watch for large swings in price in any direction. I wait for opportunity by constantlyreading the news headlines, and listening to CNBC. The trading day ends at 1:00 p.m. when Iusually quit my working day.
HARDWARE
I recommend a Pentium computer with at least 32MB of RAM with a modem that operates at33600 baud or more. I use an IBM compatible PC. I am able to run my trading software, quotesetc. with one computer. You should have a high quality monitor with a minimum size of 15". Mytrading software occupies the lower 2/3 of my screen while I have my chat room on the upper1/3. I recommend purchasing your Computer locally to give you quick access to any problemsolving technical support.
COMMUNICATIONS
I use two phone lines, one dedicated to the computer and the other for telephone calls. I amcurrently using A B Watley (http://www.77cn.com.cn) as my Broker and quote feed. I can place aBUY or SELL in a couple of seconds and usually get a confirmation within 5 to 10 secondsfollowing a trade. A touch-tone phone is a must with your Brokers number preprogrammed.
You will also need to set up a TV where you can see it from your computer. This will benecessary to receive CNBC.
As previously mentioned my news and quotes service is AB Watley who also serves as myBroker, the quotes are provided through them by PC Quotes. I am able to connect onto theInternet using a local Internet provider and run my trading Software provided by AB Watley. Ihave executed trades with confirmation in 1 second but it can take longer depending on thetrading volume. I find that their SOES (Small order execution system) is an excellent tool for thenovice and professional.
