Abstract Evolutionofthesequenceofthecontinentalbasinsreflectstheperiodicchangesoflakewaterregime.Thusthereactingsequenceofthelacustrinedepositsexpressesthegenetichistoryoftheoilandgaspool.Inthestudyarea,2long-termcycles,8medium-termcyclesand43short-termcycleswereiden-tifiedandcorrelated.Accordingtotheprocess-responseanalysisinthebase-levelcycles,reservoirhetero-geneitiesanditsrelationtobase-levelarediscussed.Ourresearchshowsthatreservoirdistributionanditsheterogeneitieswereobviouslycontrolledbythebase-level.Thebase-levelcontrolledthepropertyofsand-body.Theshort-termcyclecontrolledthecharacteristicofheterogeneitiesinsandbody,andthemedium-andlong-termcyclecontrolledtheinter-layerheterogeneities.Onthelowerlocationofthemedium-andlong-termbase-level,thesandbodyiswelldeveloped,withawideareaandgreatthickness,whileonthehighlocationofthebase-level,thereisanoppositereservoircharacter.
