1. Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961)Hemingway is one of the most famous American novelists and was awarded the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature. His simple prose style has influenced a wide range of writers. His serious novel The Sun Also Rises appeared in 1926. The Old Man and the Sea, published first in Life magazine in 1952. On July 2, 1961, Hemingway committed suicide with his favorite shotgun at his home.MENU
