Write a 6,000 word assignment on one of the following:
1.Conduct a critical analysis of contemporary curriculum policy in a particular sector of education in your own national system or in England.
2. Identify a national curriculum reform that has impacted on your work as an educator. Carry out a critical analysis of a part of the curriculum policy text associated with this reform. Highlight it’s influence on your professional practice.
3. ‘Curriculum is always a selection from a culture, a culture which is itself framed socio-historically’.
‘Curriculum begs the question of who shall do the selecting, on what grounds and on whose behalf’ (Hartley, 1997, p. 43).
Discuss this quotation, with reference to an analysis of curriculum arising in your own cultural context.
4. ‘… the influence of globalization can be discerned in different ways and… in particular, policy
developments in curriculum can be framed, at least in part, in terms of a reaction against and a response to globalization’ (Priestley, 2002, p.123).
a) What does Priestley mean by this quotation?
b) By referring to a curriculum policy development relevant to your professional context, critically discuss the ways in which it might be described as ‘as reaction against’ and ‘a response to globalisation.
5. Outline and justify the kind of curriculum policy that might engender amongst learners the ‘environmental ethic’ about which Bonnett writes (2004, p. 139-140).
6. Select a national assessment policy. Identify the key drivers for this policy and critically analyse its impact on professional practice in a country of your choice.
