(2017·江西南昌十校高三二模)People are divided into those who can jump out of bed each morning and those who need several hours to wake up. I have hated getting up early all my life. The moment the alarm goes off in the morning, I feel sick. Nights, though, are different; I'll happily stay up and I'll do anything to escape an early start.
This makes me an owl, but I know many larks (云雀)who insist that dawn is the best part of the day. While I go to work sleepy they have been up for hours and even seem cheerful about it. But it is wrong to say that society is exactly divided into larks and owls.
Surveys that explore what time of day people prefer to do activities show that only 20% of adults are true larks or owls. That leaves 80% of us—half of which lean towards one direction or the other, the other half are neither.
Schools and work often start very early, and there's a sense of love for getting up early while owls are simply slovenly. But no one suggests that larks are lazy for having an early night while owls are working.
Fortunately science is on my side. I'm not sleeping my life away or missing the best part of the day. I'm behaving according to my genes. Researchers have found that one's chronotype(睡眠类型) is largely genetic. So it seems that when I try to get up early I am fighting my genes. With the help of an alarm clock I can force myself to get up early. But as soon as I fail to set the alarm my genes will return me to my old ways.

10.What do we know about the surveys mentioned in the passage? A. 20% of adults are true larks.
B. 40% of adults are neither larks nor owls. C. Half of people seem to be owls.
D. People can only be divided into larks and owls.
11.The underlined word “slovenly” in Paragraph 4 can be best replaced by “________”.
A. lazy B. bored C. tired D. stupid 12.What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. What helps us fall asleep. B. How much sleep we need.

(2017·安徽合肥高三第二次教学质量检测)A water lily painting, Water Lily Pond, by Claude Monet, the French impressionist artist, was sold for more than $80 million on Tuesday, breaking the auction (拍卖) record for himself. Water Lily Pond was part of a four-work collection of water lily paintings that Monet put up for sale during his lifetime.
The four paintings of Monet's water lily garden were signed and dated by the artist in 1919. One of the other paintings is at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, while another was sold at auction in 1992 for $12.1 million and is in a private collection now. The final painting in the series was cut into two before World War Ⅱ.
“After a fierce bidding battle between a number of buyers in the room and on the telephone, the painting finally was sold to a collector for $80.4 million, setting a new world record price for the artist at auction,” said Olivier Camu, a scholar of impressionist art.
The last record for a Monet work was set in May when Le Pont du Chemin de fer

(2017·湖北八校高三第一次联考)Researchers found that women who had given birth might have a reduced risk of death from several common conditions than those who had not, according to a study released Friday by the Imperial College London (ICL).
The study, led by ICL researchers, was published in the journal BMC Medicine. It investigates the association between the so-called reproductive factors—such as having children and breastfeeding—and a woman's risk of death.
Researchers analyzed data from 322,972 women across 10 countries, including the UK, France, Germany and Sweden, with an average age of 50.
Each woman was followed for an average of 12.9 years. During this period, there were 14,383 deaths overall, which included 5,938 deaths from cancer and 2,404 deaths from circulatory system diseases, according to the study.
The team compared reproductive factors with the risk of death from several common conditions, such as breast cancer, strokes and heart diseases.
The researchers found that women who had given birth had a 20 percent reduced risk of death than those who had not. It was also found that there was a reduced risk of death (8 percent) in women who had breastfed compared to those who had not.
The risk of death from cancer was lower in those who had given birth compared to those who had not. Within this group, the risk was reduced even further in women that gave birth to two or three children in comparison to those who had only one child.
“Hormonal mechanisms may explain the lower risk of death that we observed with breastfeeding, and having given birth, as these factors are associated with changes in hormone levels,” said Dr Melissa Merritt from ICL, who led the study.
11. According to the passage, the risk of death from cancer is lower in women who ________.
A. have given birth to no child B. have given birth to one child
C. have given birth to more than one child D. have breastfed
12.According to the research, if a woman has given birth and breastfed, her risk of death will decrease by ________.
A.20% B.28% C.12% D.16%
13.Which of the following might be one of the findings of the research? A.Several common conditions lead to women's death.
B.Reproductive factors are associated with changes in hormone levels. C.Women who have given birth live longer than those who have not.
