Humanism of Renaissance VS Humanism of Confucianism
When it comes to Humanism of Renaissance and Humanism of Confucianism,we know there are lots of similarities and differences between them. The followings are my opinions on the topic.
First, I want to show the differences to you. Renaissance Humanism was an intellectual movement in Europe of the later Middle Ages and the Early Modern period. The movement flourished in the Italian Renaissance to revive classic learning and won wide acceptance among historians in many nations, especially Italy. While Humanism of Confucianism should date back to Spring/Autumn Period and Warring States Period. It bases on people-oriented. Then, the former is the return to favor of the pagan classics stimulated the philosophy of secularism, the appreciation of worldly pleasures, and above all intensified the assertion of personal independence and individual expression. Zeal for the classics was a result as well as a cause of the growing secular view of life. Expansion of trade, growth of prosperity and luxury, and widening social contacts generated interest in worldly pleasures, in spite of formal allegiance to ascetic Christian doctrine. Men thus affected -- the humanists -- welcomed classical writers who revealed similar social values and secular attitudes. However, the latter is as a spiritual resource for global ethics. Confucian humanism, by focusing on harmonious relationships at the personal, communal, national, regional, and global levels, offers a philosophy of life and a worldview that celebrates diversity without falling into the pitfall of pernicious relativism. It emphasizes group solidarity but doesn’t falsely regard egalitarianism as monolithic conformity. Furthermore, by integrating ecological and religious dimensions into human self-understanding, Confucian humanism, unlike secular anthropocentrism, provides a broad ethical basis in the quest for human flourishing.
Although there are many differences between them, similarities are owned by humanists. They both advocate the concepts of personality equality, individual independence, etc. They both reflect the society at that time.
In my opinion, both two are make a great contributions to the development of our society. So far they also have good effects on our life, such as in the field of management, in the field of philosophy, in the field of education and so on. So I think it is necessary for us, the future of our world’s builder, to command both two comprehensively, so that we can make full use of them to deal with what we could confront in our daily life.
