第二节:书面表达【范文】
As Francis bacon puts it, reading makes a full man. It is reading that guides us into a world of wonders and gives us a glimpse of what life is like. It is no exaggeration to say that reading enriches the mind and shapes what we are today.
My story of reading started when I was just a little girl and fairy tales like Snow White were the best
lullabies that sent me to sweet dreams. As I grew up , what touched me most was the beauty of language, whether it was Secret Garden or My Friend Lu Xixi . The more I read, the more curious and eager I become to explore the unknown.
To put it simply, reading to me is more of a friend, a teacher and a soul-mate. Not only does reading bring me much joy but it also helps me get access to a broader world and greater minds. That is exactly what reading is all about.

Hailey Fort may look like an ordinary nine-year-old girl, but her kindness is rather uncommon and inspiring. The little girl has made it her mission (使命) to help the homeless in her community by giving them a place to sleep. While most other kids at her age are playing with toys, Hailey picks up power tools to build tiny shelters for people living on the streets.
Four years ago, Hailey and her mother bought a homeless man a sandwich in her hometown. Then, she realized that she wanted to do more in terms of providing food for the homeless. So she came up with the idea of starting a garden, called “Hailey’s Harvest”, to grow and donate (捐赠) fresh produce. In 2014, Hailey managed to grow 128 pounds of produce and donated every bit of it to a local food bank. The project’s success inspired her to think beyond food. She wanted to give the homeless a roof to spend the night under, so she decided to build small mobile sleeping shelters equipped with basic facilities (设施).
With her mother’s help, Hailey applied for a grant from Together Raising, and was awarded $3,000 to help her get started. The wooden homes that Hailey is building will feature (以…为特征) front doors, windows, solar panels(电池板) and so on. Believe it or not, she does most of the work herself, with a bit of guidance from her mother and her grandfather. She is currently halfway through her first home, which she intends to give to Edward, the homeless man who inspired her project. 24. What does the underlined word “grant” mean in Para 3? A. An amount of money. B. A business permit. C. A job opportunity. D. A bit of guidance.
2. Which one is a feature of the wooden homes for the homeless?
A. They have many facilities. B. They can’t be moved. C. They are friendly to the environment. D. They are made of stones. 26. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Hailey has completed her first home for Edward. B. Local food bank bought the fresh produce from Hailey. C. Hailey wanted to give the homeless more than food.
D. Hailey’s mother offered her much advice over building homes. 27. What may be the best title for the passage? A. The planned homes for the homeless.
B. A nine-year-old girl who helps the homeless. C. A successful project called “Hailey’s Harvest”.
