At the end of the long walk from the well to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half-full. For two years this happened daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water. Of course, the perfect pot was proud. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection.
One day, the cracked pot spoke to the woman by the well: “I am ashamed of myself because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house.”
The old woman smiled: “Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot’s side? That’s because I have always known about your crack, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path. And every day while we walk back, you water them.”
“For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate (装饰) the table. Without you being just the way you are, I would not have this beauty.”

When I was small and my grandmother died, I couldn't understand why I had no tears. But that night when my dad tried to cheer me up, my laughs turned into crying.
So it came as no surprise to learn that researchers believe crying and laughing are controlled by the same part of the brain. Just as laughing has many health advantages, scientists are discovering that so does crying. Whatever helps us to reduce pressure is important to our emotional health, and crying seems to work well. One study found that 85 percent of women and 73 percent of men report feeling better after crying.
Besides, tears attract help from other people. Researchers agree that when we cry, people around us become kinder and friendlier and they are more ready to provide support and comfort. Tears also enable us to understand our emotions better; sometimes we don't even know we're very sad until we cry. We learn about our emotions through crying, and then we can deal with them.
Just as crying can be healthy, not crying---holding back tears of anger, pain or suffering---can be bad for physical health. Studies have shown that too much control of emotions can 1ead to high blood pressure, heart problems and some other illness. If you have a health problem, doctors will certainly not ask you to cry. But when you feel like crying, don't fight it. It's a natural, healthy and emotional response. 5. It can be inferred from the text that . A. there are two ways to keep healthy
B. emotional health has a close relationship to physical health C. crying and laughing play the same roles
D. crying does more good to health than laughing
6. According to the author, which of the following statements is true? A. Crying is the best way to get help from others.
B. We will never know our deep feelings unless we cry. C. Fighting back tears may cause some health problems. D. We must cry if we want to reduce pressure 7. What might be the most suitable title for the text?
A. Why We Cry B. How to Keep Healthy C. New Scientific Discovery D. Power of Tears 8. What is the author's attitude to \
A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Touched. D. Upset.

Dolphins(海豚)are not fish, but warm-blooded animals. They live in groups, and speak to each other in their own language. In this way they are like other animals, such as bees and birds. But dolphins are very different from almost all land animals. Their brain is nearly the same size as our own and they live a long time—at least twenty or thirty years.
Like some animals, dolphins use sound to help them find their way around. They also make these sounds to talk to each other and to help them find food. We now know they do not use their ears to receive these sounds, but the lower part of the mouth, called the jaw.
Strangely, dolphins seem to like man, and for thousands of years there have been stories about the dolphin and its friendship with people.
There is a story about sailors in the 19th century. In a dangerous part of the sea off the coast of New Zealand, they learnt to look for a dolphin called Jack. From 1871 to 1903,Jack met every boat in the area and
1
showed it the way. Then in 1903 a passenger on a boat called The Penguin shot and wounded Jack. He recovered and for nine years more continued to guide all ships through the area—except for The Penguin. Today, some people continue to kill dolphins, but many countries of the world now protect them and in these places it is against the law to kill them.

10. Which of the following does the dolphin use to help it find its way around? A. Its nose. B. Its ears. C. Its mouth. D. Its eyes. 11. 12. By telling the story of Jack the writer wanted to show that _____ . A. dolphins are friendly and clever B. people are cruel to animals

Spend more time on physical activities
It is reported that American students spend more than 70 minutes on physical activities per day. However, in China students have only 12 minutes for physical activities per day. Why do the Chinese students spend so little time on physical activities? From the pie chart above we can see, 40% of their spare time is spent doing their homework; 25% of it is spent watching TV; 20% is spent playing computer games or chatting online. Only 15% of their time is used to do some physical activities. It is obvious that most of their spare time is spent on homework, computer games and TV shows.
In my opinion, students should spend more spare time on physical activities, which are beneficial to their growth and health. Both the education departments and parents should encourage students to set aside more time for physical activities.
