1．本课题的研究目的和意义 Films, both a form of art and a wonderful entertainment, are becoming more and more popular from last century. Among which, English films have the largest amount of audience at home. As a consequence, an elaborately-translated title would be essential to attract more people to watch the film. However, translating English film titles is never an easy job. It is a significant creation which itself will bring about aesthetic feelings to the audience. With the rapid space of globalization, China’s communication with the rest of the world has been increasingly frequent. Countless movies from Britain, the U.S.A. and even Hong Kong flooded into the mainland. Out of question, tons of work needs to be done before Chinese audiences actually accept those exotic films. Translating the films’ titles would be of vital importance to promote this cross-cultural communication. Therefore, research on film title translation is participated by more and more experts, making it an indispensable branch of practical translation studies. this paper aim to explore the effective translation principles and strategies of English film titles． 2．本课题的国内外研究现状 In the past thirty years, tremendous improvement has been achieved through generations of professors. But it is far from satisfying because of the job’s sophistication. It is not rare to see that different versions of names of the same film arouse annoying confusion to the public. In order to achieve the effect, quite a few methods have been put forward to guide film title translation. But none of them has won an upper hand in this competition.． 3．本课题的研究内容和方法 As for content of this research, this thesis will firstly analysis the problems Existing in English Film Title Translation, then description the profile of English film title and lastly put up with some kind of translation strategies of English film translation. As for research approach, this thesis will look into the issue through analysis, description, illustration and comparison. The resources are mainly selected from magazines, books and the Internet. The English films chosen are either Oscar winners or well-known to Chinese audiences. On the other hand, the translated titles are selected from Hong Kong, Taiwan as well as Chinese mainland. 毕 业 论 文（设 计）开 题 报 告
4．本课题的实行方案、进度及预期效果 After deciding the topic of the thesis, collect information to write the first draft. Then write the second draft and make final validation to finish the thesis. Finally, write thesis writing summary report. Procedure: 12.12~12.20 Decide the topic of the thesis 12.21~01.07 Collect information about the topic and finish the thesis proposal. 01.08~03.20 write the first draft 03.26~04.09 After being checked by instructor, begin to write second draft and make final validation and finish it. 04.10~04.20 At last, write thesis writing summary report. 5．已查阅的参考文献 [1]Newmark, Peter.
