However, the value of (Q-W) is a constant, equal to for the change no matter how it is brought about. If a system undergoes a change in which the internal energy of the system remains constant, the work done by the system equals the heat absorbed by the system. If a system undergoes a change that reduces its internal energy, the energy released will be the sum of the heat evolved and the work done.
