根据下列短文内容回答问题。在每题下面的4个选项中找出正确选项,并将序号填写在答题纸上。

Passage A

Editor: Today our topic is part-time jobs. Are they good for school children or not?

Headmaster: Certainly not. Children have got two full-time jobs already: growing up and going to

school. Part-time jobs make them so tired that they fall asleep in class.

Mrs. White: I agree. I know school hours are short, but there is homework, too. Children need a lot

of sleep.

Mr. White: Young children perhaps, but some boys stay at school until they’re eighteen or nineteen.

A part-time job can’t do harm to them. In fact, it is good for them. They get their

4

pocket money. If the pupils from poor families don’t take part-time jobs, they can’t stay at school.

Businessman: I think so. Part-time jobs can help the students from poor families and can make the

students from rich families know that it is not easy to make money.

Editor: Well, two of you agree and two don’t. What do our readers think? 61. The headmaster thinks that students .

Passage B

Most colleges provide a good working environment. To study well, a good living condition is necessary. With a comfortable room, you can also relax by yourself.

It is probably best to live in college, with other students, at least for your first year at college. This increases your opportunities to make friends with students who are learning different subjects—and so to broaden your interests. In this first year you will also get to know about other kinds of places, and can consider their good points and weaknesses.

Wherever you live, you will need a place in which to study well —without spending too much time or money on travel. Also, do not allow yourself to be away from the opportunities for enjoyment and friendship which college life provides.

The part-time student, or the student who goes to a local college, will probably live at home and have no such problems. However, some changes may be needed. It is not possible to work well in a room shared with other people who are doing different things (such as talking, listening to the radio, or playing games). A student living at home needs the encouragement and support of other members of the family. The same is also true if two or three students share a room in college. If you cannot go into another room to study when other people are at home, try to fit your study time into your timetable so that you can study in the reading room of a local library or in the college library. Then study at home at times when you expect other people to be out of the house or busy doing other things in other rooms.

64. What does the writer think of living in college?

A. It is hard to say. B. It is advantageous. C. It is disadvantageous. D. It is no good at all. 65. What kind of living condition outside the college is the best?

A. One close to the campus. B. One without any enjoyment. C. One costing too much money. D. One without any disadvantages.

5

66. In paragraph 4. “the part-time student” means one who does not _______________. A. attend the college regularly B. take all the examinations C. learn all the subjects D. take part in all the activities

67. What do students living at home and in college have in common if they want to study well? A. They like to take part in many activities. B. They don’t share a room with many people. C. They don’t need encouragement and support. D. They need some private time and space to study.

Passage C

Catching a fish in Italian waters is more difficult than anywhere in the world. People overfished there in the past and the pollution is quite serious, not only on countless Italian rivers, streams and lakes, but also on its seas —the Tyrrhenian, the Adriatic, the Ligurian, and the Ionian. However, fishing can provide some real excitement during an Italian tour. The Alps and the Apennines give life to different water systems, and with some patience and some luck, there’s a fish waiting to be caught somewhere. If not, there’s always peace and quiet —and the beautiful Italian scenery.

Three-fourths of Italian land is coastal, and on many islands the fishing is actually quite good—most of them around Sicily and Sardinia. No license is needed to fish in these waters. However, there are rules on size, species, seasons, and the like. People can get information about boats easily from boat clubs, and it’s easy to come across local fishermen at local shops. Don’t worry about the language. The Italian who speaks no English will probably rush off to find a countryman who does.

68. It is more difficult to fish in Italy because _____________. A. the Italian seas are polluted and there is little fish

B. there are too many different water systems while too little fish C. the Italian seas are tougher than anywhere in the world D. the Italians have overfished

69. The writer thinks that it’s still a real excitement to fish in Italia because _________. A. Italy has many different water systems B. there is always some fish waiting to be caught everywhere C. Italy has many mountains like the Alps and the Apennines D. people can catch some fish and enjoy the beautiful scenery 70. Which is a better place for fishing?

A. Sicily and Sardinia. B. The Alps and the Apennines. C. The Ligurian and the Ionian. D. The Tyrrhenian and the Adriatic. 71. Which of the following statements is true?

A. Every Italian, even a countryman, knows English. B. People don’t need a license to fish in Italy.

C. People can fish whatever they like since there is no rule. D. People can get any information easily from the boat clubs.

Passage D

We parents often take material things for love. “I give him everything,” a disappointed

6

mother complains. “New shoes, video-games, his own TV. You’d think he’d at least show me respect!”

Of course, love and parents are related. Most parents work hard to earn money. They want their children to have more than they did and have better lives. The problem is, most children don’t connect the things parents buy with the labor that pays for them. Children have more, but our culture-- and television in particular-- teaches them that more is never enough. Having more does not mean that a child feels loved.

From a parent’s point of view, children are not thankful. But this has to do with their natural growth. Young children see their parents as all-powerful. If parents fail to provide what they want, it must be a matter of choice. It’s normal for children, even school-age ones, not to be able to take another person’s point of view. For example, they may dislike their parent for working long hours. And not realize that the parent would also rather have more time at home.

In addition to giving presents, we have to find other ways to express love and create memories. Reading or telling stories together. Making music and playing games are all ways for families to spend time without spending money. Traditions like reading favorite poems and even snowball fights all serve the same purpose. Most importantly, as parents, we have to learn to hold back some energy from our tiring jobs. When we’re present for our children we ourselves become the presents we want to give.

72. According to the passage, children ________.

A. want fewer presents B. are taught to want more

C. want presents rather than love D. dislike their parents staying home. 73. We can judge from the passage that there is a lack of _______. A. money for some families B. jobs for some parents

C. understanding between children and parents D. love between children and parents

74. The last sentence of the passage means ________. A. our children are good presents to us B. we ourselves need presents

C. staying with our children is a good present to them D. we should give more presents to our children 75. The best title for the passage is _______.

A. Family Life B. Love and Presents C. Children’s Education D. Children and Parents
