Modern life is impossible without traveling. The fastest way of traveling is by air. With a modern airliner you can travel in one day to places which it took a month or more to get to a hundred years ago. Traveling by train is slower than by air, but it has its own advantages. For example, you can see the country you are traveling through. Besides, modern trains have comfortable seats and dining cars. They make even the longest journey enjoyable and comfortable.

Some people prefer to travel by sea when possible. There are large liners and river boats. You can visit many other countries and different places. Traveling by sea is a very pleasant way to spend a holiday. Many people like to travel by car. You can make your own timetable. You can travel three or four hundred miles or only fifty or one hundred miles a day, just as you like. You can stop wherever you

If you go into the forest with friends, stay with them always. If you don’t, you may get lost. If you really get lost, this is what you should do. Sit down and stay where you are. Don’t try to find your friends—let them find you by staying in one place.

There is another way to help your friends or other nearby people to find you. Give them a signal by shouting or whistling (吹口哨) three times. Stop. Then shout or whistle three times. Any signal given three times is a call for help.

Keep up the shouting or whistling always three times together. When people hear you, they will know that you are not just making noise for fun. They will let you know that they have heard your signal. They will give two shouts, two whistles or two gun- shots. When someone gives a signal, it is an answer to a call for help.

If you don’t think that you will get help before night comes, try to make a little house — cover up the holes with branches(树枝) with lots of leaves. Make yourself a soft bed with leaves and grass.

What should you do if you get hungry or need drinking water? You will have to leave your little

branch house to look for a river. Don’t just walk away. Pick off small branches and drop them as you walk so that you can find your way back.

Nowadays many students are interested in studying abroad.

Attending schools abroad has many advantages. First, by looking at our own country from outside, we can best see the strong points and weak points of our nation and therefore widen our vision and broaden our minds. Second, while studying in a foreign country, we can travel widely, visiting famous scenic spots and making friends with the local people. Third, we can use the foreign language in our daily life so that our ability in that language may be improved quickly. But the most important is to learn advanced science and technology. For all these advantages, it is really worthwhile to go abroad for education.

However, as everything has two sides, there are also some disadvantages in attending a foreign

university. The most serious problem is the language barrier (障碍). Most of the students who are ready to go abroad do not prepare themselves well for the new language environment. As a result, on arriving there, they will find it difficult to understand what the instructors are saying in class. Besides, for not knowing about the customs and way of life of the local people, they may run into trouble in dealing with various situations. Therefore, misunderstandings often arise. Furthermore, the cost of living is much higher than that in our country, so most students have to find part-time jobs in order to help support themselves. Faced with these difficulties, many students find themselves unable to pay full attention to their studies and some students may even fail in their courses and learn little.

Therefore, given an opportunity to attend a school abroad, one must consider the factors carefully before making up his mind. On the one hand, it is a good thing to go and study abroad. But on the other hand, one must not neglect (忽视) the disadvantages.

33. The following are all advantages of studying abroad EXCEPT . A. having more chances to get good jobs C. visiting well-known scenic spots A. neighbors

B. teachers

B. improving foreign language ability quickly D. learning advanced science and technology C. strangers

D. classmates

34. The underlined word “instructors” in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to . 35. The passage mainly tells us that . A. studying abroad is a good way to learn advanced science and technology

Can Anger Be an Illness?

Many strong and out of control emotions are recognized as an illness.People who are always very sad have depression;those who worry a lot have anxiety.

But what about anger problems?Anger is largely viewed as a secondary emotion, one caused by other emotions.People are thought to be angry because they are sad, anxious or stressed. 36 Today, though,a growing number of mental health experts think that anger is a serious problem that needs its own treatment.

How to tell the difference between “normal” anger and “anger problem” is difficult. After all, everyone gets really mad from time to time.Experts point out a few ways.

Disordered anger,as it is sometimes called, tends to be of greater intensity(强度), 37 An example:while most people would get upset if a driver cut them off, someone with disordered anger might try to chase down the car and force it off the road.

And in cases of disordered anger, the person gets angry more frequently and his/her anger lasts longer.38 But people with anger problems often stay angry for days, weeks or even years;their feelings of anger don't disappear over time.

39 Disordered anger often damages people's lives.“It interferes(干扰) with people's relationships and their jobs.”says Raymond Chip Tafrate,a US psychologist.“Even their health is affected.”

Anger clearly increases the risk of certain health problems,as many studies have shown. When people are angry, their heart beats faster and their blood pressure goes up.40 Experts suggest that people with an anger problem take anger management programs. The programs teach people to control their responses to stressful situations through the use of relaxation techniques. The programs sometimes include life skills training as well:increasing someone's level of competence, whether on the job or as a parent or partner, helps bring down stress and cut angry feelings. A.Anger takes away people's joy in life.

B.Consequences are also important to consider. C.The anger buried inside him rises to the surface. D.For most people, angry feelings disappear quickly. E.Over time, these changes have bad effects on the body.

F.In the past, many doctors didn't accept the idea that anger could be a problem all on its own. G.It takes very little to set off a person with an anger problem, and their responses are very strong.
