14 I reminded the Reverend Nelson how each morning he would open our little country town's grammar school with a prayer over his assembled students. They had met at a cafe on Eighth Street and found their tastes in art, chicory salad and bishop sleeves so much in tune that the joint studio resulted.

Old Behrman, with his red eyes plainly streaming, shouted his contempt for such foolish
