The analysis of the teaching plan for Reading: I’d love to sail

across the Pacific Ocean.

This lesson is a reading material. It is in Go for it! Book3 Unit6. It plays a very important part in the English teaching of this unit. By studying it, Students can improve their reading ability. Meanwhile, they can also learn that it’s important for people to have hopes and dreams and they should try their best to achieve their dreams. Teaching aims:

1. Knowledge aim: to learn the new words, phrases and language points and understand the main idea of this passage

2. Ability aim: to express one’s hope and dreams and improve one’s reading ability.

3. Emotional aim: to know it’s important for people to have hopes and dreams. We should never give up to make our dreams come true.

Teaching important points:

2. To memorize the new words and the usage of some phrases. Teaching difficult point:

To talk about their hopes and dreams. Part 2. My understanding of Ss

Students have studied in middle school for two years and a half. They have learned enough words to read a short text, but they are short of reading skills, so they can’t read quickly and they are still far away from our requirement. Part 3. My teaching method

1. Task—based Language Teaching. 2. Situational Approach .

3. Communicative Approach .

According to the New English Curriculum standard, students should be the real master in language study, and will make great progress if they study and practice while doing by themselves. Situational Approach and communicative Approach can be combined together during Task—based Language Teaching Part 4. Teaching aids 1. multimedia.

Step 1. Warming –up and Lead in

Activity 1. Video-talking (individual work) Enjoy a short video. (I believe I can fly) There are three guiding questions:

Q1: Why did you laugh? (Because it’s very funny.)

Q2: What did they want to do? (They wanted to fly, but they couldn’t fly.)

Q3: Can we fly? (No, it is just one of our dreams.) Activity 2. Free talk (class work)

(1) Ask students to talk about their dreams freely. (2) Invite some Ss to answer this question:

what is your dream?/ What is your hope? (3) Show students my hope and my dream.

My hope is to have a baby next year.

My dream is to sail across the Pacific Ocean.

(So what’s the difference between hopes and dreams?) A hope is easier to come true than a dream. A hope is more realistic than a dream. Goal: To lead up to the topic, get Ss to warm up and arouse their interest in the topic. Step 2. Pre-reading

Activity1 Look and guess (class work)

In this activity, Ss are required to look at the title and guess what they will read.
