It is October 24. You pick up a bottle of milk. You see “Best Before October 23” on it. What do you do with it? Most people just throw it away. It's a big waste.

The United Nations says that over one third of food goes to the trash. But 795 million people on the earth don't have enough to eat. To change this, people have come up with great ideas. After all, the best place for food is in our stomachs, not the trash.

In many people's eyes, food past its sell-by date becomes junk. But a company from the UK thinks differently. There is a

“Best Before Date” on the food bag. Before that date, the quality is the best. But after that date, the food can be still OK to eat. So, the Real Junk Food Project, a British company, gets such food from supermarkets and puts it in cafes again. They don't give the food a price. You can give whatever money you like. If you don't want to spend money, you can help work there.

Recently, “shared fridges” have come to cities like Shanghai and Quanzhou. Quick meals, milk, cookies and cakes are staying in the fridges. It is just like your fridge at home. The food comes from families and shops nearby. And it is free for every passer-by to enjoy! This great idea comes from the popular “food bank” practice. We keep our extra money in a bank. In

1967, some people in the US wanted to do the same with food. They then set up the world's first food bank. 4. What do the words “Best Before October 23” mean on a food bag? A.People needn't pay attention to that date. B.The food smells best before the given date. C.You'd better eat the food before the date. D.People have to throw it away after the date.

5. You can do the following EXCEPT ________ at the Real Junk Food Project. A.getting food past its sell-by date B.working for your own food

C.paying a lower price for the food D.taking away the food for free

C.The food in a “shared fridge” isn't free for every passer-by. D.The “food bank” first appeared in China in recent years. 7.What does the writer want to tell us through the reading? A.We should throw away all the food past its sell-by date. B.We should keep all the food best to eat at any time. C.We should think of ways to reduce the waste of food.

D.We should store all the food past its sell-by date in a fridge.

Many kids help parents to do chores in the house. They may wash the dishes, put laundry away or take out the trash. In return, some kids get money or other rewards from their parents, such as 20 minutes to play computer games.

But some people don't think that kids should get rewards for doing chores. One of them is Susie Walton, a parenting educator(育儿教育家) and family coach. She believes if kids get rewards, they will think that work isn't worth doing unless you get something in return. For example, kids won't sweep the floor if they see it is dirty. But they will clean the floor if their parents reward them for it.

“Every house is a team effort,” Walton said. “A home is a living space for everyone in the family. It's important for kids

to see that we all have a responsibility to keep our home clean.”

Other people hold different opinions. They believe that money or other rewards encourage kids to do more chores. It also teaches them real world lessons. They can learn about how we need to work to make money.

Now, there are also apps that encourage kids to do chores. The apps give kids points and digital(数字的)gifts that can be used either online or in life.

With the app ChoreMonster, kids can get digital points after doing chores. Kids can exchange their points for real rewards, such as time to play video games or a trip to the mall.

“Our goal is to encourage kids to earn rewards, ” says Chris Bergman, founder of ChoreMonster. “Kids need positive power to make them do chores.”

8. According to the passage, some children get rewards from their parents because ________. A.they get high marks in the exam
