Unit 9 When was it invented

【教学目标】 1.知识目标

1)掌握以下词汇:

by accident, beverage, according to, ancient, legend, bush, fall into, remain, notice, produce, pleasant, mixture, in this way, pie, flying disk, bakery, throw 2)掌握并会运用下列短语和句型。

Did you know that tea was invented by accident?

Although tea wasn’t brought to the Western world until 1610, this beverage was discovered over three thousand years before that.

The emperor noticed that the leaves in the water produced a pleasant smell. And in this way, one of the world’s favorite drinks was invented. 2.能力目标

读:通过学习本课短文,能够读懂有关发明创造的文章。 说:利用所给提示,能比较流畅地复述课文。

写:能用本节课所学知识,描述茶叶发明创造的历史。 3.情感目标

通过学习本课了解发明的历史,开阔视野,扩大知识面。 【重点难点】

重点:熟练掌握本课的短语及句型。

难点:复述课文,描述某项发明创造的历史。 【教学过程】 I. Warm up

1、检查生词预习

教师活动:齐读本课单词,让学生自己指出发音有误的单词,由教师集体正音,并领读。听写:让学生以小组为

单位互相批改,小组长汇报听写情况。对听写全对者提出表扬,对出错较多的词在黑板上提出集体更正,并告诉学生要根据发音记单词。

学生活动:大声读单词,及时更正发音不准的单词。 2、自由交谈

教师活动:教师带领学生复习上节课的内容。 —How were potato chips invented? —When were they invented? —Who were they invented by?

学生活动:根据老师的提问,回答问题。

—They were invented by mistake. —They were invented in 1853.

—They were invented by George Crum. II. Pre-task (预备任务)

教师活动: We now know that potato chips were invented by mistake, but do you know that tea,

the most popular drink in the world, was invented by accident? Who invented tea? Let’s read 3a (the article) if you want to know about it.

学生活动:尽量仔细听老师的话,看能否听懂,并根据老师的指导完成接下来的任务。 III While-task (同步任务)

1 . Task 1 : Fast reading (Scanning)

教师活动:教师检查预读情况,让一名学生说出本短文的主要内容,其他学生补充。 学生活动:快速阅读课文,掌握本文大意。 2.Task 2 : skimming

教师活动:和学生一起读文后的问题,让学生带着问题再次阅读短文并找出问题的答案。

检查答案。让个别学生读出答案。

学生活动:读问题,带着问题去仔细阅读课文。

教师活动:放录音让学生跟读。边读边由教师更正发音,语调的问题。 学生活动:认真听录音并且跟着录音大声朗读课文,注意单词的语音语调。 Task4: Intensive reading

教师活动:学生再次仔细阅读,同时找出并划下短文中的主要短语与句型,提醒学生尤其

注意包含生词的短语和句型。可以小组讨论,互通有无。教师将重要短语与句型写在黑板上。

学生活动:学生小组里讨论,发言,归纳.

IV. Post-work(任务提升). 根据下面提示复述课文: Did you know ....the most popular drink ......? Although tea .....,this beverage, According to an ......the emperor Shen Nong discovered.......Some leaves......fell into......remained.......The emperor noticed that......Later he decided to....... It was...... And in this way...... 2、Language points:

①not…until “直到……才”,例如:

He didn’t go to bed until 12 o’clock last night. I won’t leave until my father comes back.

You can’t go out with your friends until you finish your homework. ②over意为“多于,超过”,相当于 more than。例如:

Her grandmother is over / more than ninety years old. There are over / more than sixty students in our class. ③three thousand years

thousand表示确切数字时不加s也不加of,表示模糊数字时既加s又加of。例如: There are two thousand students in our school.

Thousands of tourists come to this beach for vacation every year.

Thousands of teenagers like to listen to pop songs, they are very crazy. ④decide to do sth.

decide后面跟动词不定式意思为“决定做某事”,decide的名词形式为decision。 例如: All of us decided to work hard from now on.

They have made a decision to go there on vacation. 3、PAIRWORK。

让学生利用3a的信息两人一组进行对话练习并且在课堂上表演。 V. 实践应用

3b: Write an article using the notes in the box.

让学生利用3b所提供的信息,仿照3a中的短文,简单介绍一下飞碟的发明过程。

例文:

From pie plate to flying disk

The flying disk was invented by college students. It was invented in the bakery in

Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1950s. After the students ate pie, they threw pie plates for fun. But the pie plates were very easily broken, so they invented flying disks instead. Then they started clubs of flying disk. There are magazines and a festival of it.

4a: Groupwork. (Think of something that you don’t like doing. Then think of an invention that could help you. Write the details in the chart) 向学生解释题目要求,让学生以小组为单位讨论完成表格。 4b: Pairwork.

Imagine you are a businessperson. Ask your partner questions about his or her invention. Then try to sell your partner’s invention to the class. 让学生两人一组合作完成对话,并向班级推荐所发明的产品。 VI. 总结反馈

让学生自己总结本课所学知识。
