W: Your apartment looks great. By the way, where is your family?

M: My parents are at my elder sister?s. My brother lives in the school dormitory. W: That means we will have a quiet evening studying together. Text 3

W: Are you going to take the job, George? M: I don?t know. The salary is OK. W: What about the hours?

M: They are long but I don?t mind that. I?m just a bit worried about the amount of paid leave. Text 4

W: Wow, the colour and the style look superb. When did you get it? M: I bought it last month. It?s very comfortable to sit in it. W: Is it nice to drive? M: Yeah. And it?s fast. Text 5

W: You look like you?re in a hurry!

M: I am. I?ve to get 50 colour copies made, then get them all air expressed.

W: I won?t keep you then. Actually, I?m in a bit of hurry myself. I need to have the tailor shorten this jacket. Text 6

M: Now, about the travel documents for the Australian group, we?ve had everything mailed to them, right?

W: Mr Evans, we gave you the package of travel documents to give to Mr Wells the other night at dinner.

M: A white envelope about this big? W: Yes.

M: I gave it to Mr Rashid before he left for Lebanon.

W: Oh, Mr Wells needs those documents the day after tomorrow! His group is flying to Australia on Thursday.

M: Oh, what a mistake I made! Text 7

W: What can I do for you, sir?

M: I?d like to return this watch. I bought it here five days ago. It stopped working after I went swimming with it two days after I bought it.

W: This shouldn?t happen to this watch. It?s for diving professionals. M: I know. That was the reason I bought it. W: Do you have your receipt? M: Yes. Here it is.

W: I?m afraid you can?t return it. What we can do is fix it for you. It could take as long as four weeks. Is that OK? Service is really slow with this watch manufacturer. M: What about replacing it?

W: I?m not sure whether we have this watch in stock. How about ordering one from one of our other stores in Ox Valley? That will only take two days. M: That?ll do. Text 8

W: So how did the conference go, Jodie?

M: Oh it was good. All the sessions were interesting and the speakers were really good. The organisation was a lot better this year, as well. I think having a smaller number of people there made a big difference. You know, you can make decisions a lot more quickly. W: And how was the hotel?

M: Fine. The conference rooms were a good size and the hotel rooms were clean and very comfortable. I really liked the hotel a lot. W: And how was dinner on Saturday?

M: Ah, that was probably the only thing that people really complained about. The food in the

restaurant wasn?t very good and the service was slow. If we go back to the same hotel again, we?ll have to find another restaurant. Text 9

M: Janet, it?s Oscar. Did I wake you up? W: No, but I?m going to bed soon.

M: Sorry. Listen, I?ll arrive in Florida on the 15th, Orlando Airport. Do you want to meet then? W: Yeah, sure. And how are you getting around Florida? M: I?m hiring a car at the airport.

W: And I suppose you?ll be driving straight to Disney World. M: Of course. How about meeting there?

W: Sorry, I can?t. I?m working that week. But why don?t we meet at the Kennedy Space Centre at the weekend? It?s not that far from my company.

M: OK. And then I?m meeting John Hamilton. Do you remember him from college? W: Yeah, I remember him.

M: We?re going scuba-diving. Then we?re driving straight up to the Panhandle. You know, we want to spend some time relaxing on the beach. W: Right, call me when you arrive in Florida. Text 10

Are you interested in Tokyo? It is one of the most confusing cities in the world. Over 20 million people live and work there, and many world famous companies have their offices there. But most streets don?t have names. So how can you find your way in Tokyo? Most people in Tokyo are very good at giving directions. They often use maps when they give directions. Advertisements in newspapers or magazines, for example, usually have a small map to help you find the company. If you?re going to visit someone?s house, it?s a good idea to ask the person to draw a map of the local area. If you get lost, the best idea is to go to a police station. In Japan, each neighhourhood has a small police station and the police officers there have a map of all the buildings there. Giving directions is an important part of their job.
