65. A。依据文中第一段末句“Conditions for all women will improve when there are more women in leadership roles giving strong and powerful voice to their needs and concerns.”
66. B。文中第二段介绍了外部障碍(external barriers),选项A、C和D均在第二段中有所体现;第三段介绍了内部障碍(internal barriers),选项B对应于该段中“We lower our own expectations of what we can achieve.”,因此属于内部障碍,故选B。
67. C。 该段并没有直接鼓励女性改变现状的表达,因此排除A项;根据最后三句“This is not a list of things other women have done. I have made every mistake on this list. At times, I still do.”
68. A。根据本段中“Both sides are right. So rather than engage in philosophical arguments over which comes first, let?s agree to wage battles on both fronts.”,说明作者主张不要在理论上争论谁是因谁是果,而应同时解决两方面的问题,即外部障碍和内部障碍。
69. C。根据倒数第二段中“We can break the hurdles in ourselves today. We can start this very moment.” 70. D。根据倒数第二段中“These internal barriers deserve a lot more attention, in part because they are under our own control.”

M: So, how does it feel to have your new corner office?

W: Could you tell me how I can get the ticket for the concert?
M: Yes. You can wait here in the line or go back home and buy it on the Internet. W: Because of the hot weather, I prefer not to stand here in the sunshine. Text 4
W: Can you tell us what you like doing in the evening?
M: Well, I like music. I listen to a lot of pop music. Most of all, I like watching TV. It?s much better than reading a book. Text 5
M: So, what do you think of Peter?
W: He needs a few lessons in fashion. That shirt he wears all the time looks like a tablecloth. Text 6
W: Hey, Ben. Did you do well in your essay?
M: I just got a B plus, but Mr Jones gave Tom full marks.
W: I?m not surprised. He?s a teachers? pet, you know. They always give him good marks.
M: Teachers? pet? I don?t think so. You know, he?s my roommate. He gets up early and goes to bed late every day.
W: Maybe that?s just his habit.

M: No, you envy him, don?t you? I always see him in the library. W: Oh! No wonder he is a top student. Text 7
M: Welcome to Shanghai. W: Thank you indeed. M: Is everything settled? W: Almost.
M: What else can I do for you?
W: I suppose I should look for a bigger house. But I don?t see how I can afford one right now. M: If only you hadn?t spent so much money on your vacation! W: You?re right. But I really had a happy vacation.
M: OK, maybe you can move into Kelly?s house and share that with her for a couple of months. W: That?s a good idea. But I don?t want to bother you too much. M: No trouble at all.
W: How much should I pay for the rent? M: About 400 yuan a month.

W: Excuse me. I?m with the airport office. I?m doing a survey. Can I ask you some questions? M: Sure. Go ahead.
W: How do you feel about the arrival area? Were you happy with it? M: Yes, but it?s a long way from the gate to Immigration.
W: Oh, I?m sorry about that. Well, how about Immigration? How long did it take you to get through?
M: Oh, it?s really quick — it took me only about 3 or 4 minutes.
W: Oh, good. OK, then, I saw you bought some duty-free items. Were you happy with the prices?
M: Well, I thought they were a little high. W: A little high? Compared to...? M: That in the States.
W: I see. Well, how about the general appearance of the airport? M: Oh, excellent. It?s about the cleanest airport I?ve ever been in. W: So, all in all it is clean and efficient?

W: Right, perhaps you could tell me something about how you got interested in environmental science, and what experience you have in the subject.
M: Well, I?ve always been attracted by plants and animals, and then last year a cousin of mine, Mike, invited me to Brazil. He?s the head of a project there ran by a European organization. The
19
organization?s aim is to help groups of villages set up their own schools and medical centers. They also encourage agriculture and the setting up of businesses to sell local products. Anyway, it was during my stay I really began to understand the impact of climate change. I wanted to learn more about this, so I decided to take this course.
W: And since you?ve been back, have you done anything to develop your interest in the area? M: Yes, I?ve read a book about energy saving. And I was particularly interested in how the Netherlands had begun to overcome the problem. The government has introduced some really interesting projects on energy saving in cities. There?s also a recycling project, which is saving a huge amount of our natural resources. What?s needed now, though, is to expand work like this across the world.
W: Before we finish, have you got any questions about the course here at the college? M: Well, no, thank you for asking. Text 10
Back to the news. Last Friday a storm hit two villages destroying fourteen houses. Seven others were so badly damaged that their owners had to leave them, and fifteen others had broken windows. One person was killed, and nine were badly injured and taken to hospital. A number of other people received small injuries. Altogether over two hundred were left homeless as a result of the storm.
A farmer said the storm began early in the morning and lasted over an hour. He was in the kitchen with his wife and his children when they heard a loud noise. A few minutes later their house fell down on top of them. They managed to climb out but then he saw that one of his children was missing. He went back inside and found him safe but very frightened.
A woman said that her husband had just left for work when she noticed that her house was shaking. She rushed outside immediately with her children. There was no time for her to take anything out. A few minutes later, the roof came down. Soldiers went to the sea to help the people in trouble.
