To Be Grateful
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen:
It is really a great honor for me to stand here to share you with my topic: To be grateful.
For the first time I saw the title, I recollected a story I have read before. Once President Roosevelt’s house was broken into and lots of things were stolen. Hearing this, one of Roosevelt’s friends wrote to him and advised him not to take it to his heart so much. President Roosevelt wrote back immediately, saying, “Dear friend, thank you for your letter to comfort me. I’m all right now. I think I should thank God. This is because of the following three reasons: firstly, the thief only stole things from me but didn’t hurt me at all; secondly, the thief has stolen some of my things instead of all my things; thirdly, most luckily for me, it was the man rather than me who became a thief…” It was quite unlucky for anyone to be stolen from… However, President Roosevelt had such three reasons to be so grateful. This story tells us how we can learn to be grateful in our life. So, just suppose that if one day something unfortunate happened to you, what will you do? “Life is a mirror, when you smile in front of it, it will also smile and so will it when you cry to it. Yes, if you are grateful to life, it will bring you shining sunlight. If you always complain about everything, you may own nothing in the end.
We came to this world with nothing, so we surely have many reasons
to be grateful. As for me, I feel an immense gratitude to my parents, who left the hometown for work when I was seven, leaving me with my grandma, my elder sister and brother. Till now, we seldom had chances to get together, so I treasured every second with them, I recorded the very moment when we could get together, I did whatever I could to please them, to be the proud of them. However, what I want to highlight is that I appreciate them, who brought me to this world to enjoy the colorful life, who have worked hard for so many years to support the whole family. Gratitude may be more complex for us, but I think we should be grateful to whatever we have all the time. Most of us take life for granted, and some people even say that it will never be late to show our gratitude. Perhaps, when we are in health, death is all but unimaginable. Only the deaf appreciate hearing, only the blind realize the manifold blessings that lie in sight. But those who have never suffered impairment of sight or hearing seldom make the fullest use of these blessed faculties. Please say thank you to your parents, teachers and friends at this very moment, when it is able to show your gratitude in time.
So, just to thank like the god bless you all the time, to love like you won’t have enough time to do, to appreciate like you are the luckiest one in the world.
That’s all. Thank you.
