from the school library. I read both Chinese and English novels. My favorite Chinese novel is Journey to the West. Have you ever heard of it? It is one of the four famous novels in Chinese literature. The story is full of imagination, and the main character Monkey King is very brave.
From reading books, I know more about history and traditional culture. I also learn to understand things and people better.
What kind of books do you often read? Yours, Li Hua

As she said that I felt a sharp pain in my heart. I was thinking, ―Why is God taking my mom

Brothers
Long ago, there was a rich man who had two sons. The older brother, who was called Nolbu, was greedy (贪婪的) and lazy. However, his younger brother Hungbu was hard-working and kind-hearted. When
their father died, Nolbu inherited (继承) his house and land, but Hungbu received nothing. One day when Hungbu was working in the fields, he found a bird which had broken its leg. He took the bird home and looked after it carefully. The bird gradually became stronger, and when summer came, it flew away to a warm place. A year later
the bird flew back and gave Hungbu a seed (种子). Hungbu sowed (播种) the seed and
it soon grew into a plant which produced many gourds (葫芦). When Hungbu opened one of the gourds, he was amazed to see that it was full of treasure. He wanted to use the treasure to do something useful. The next day he bought a big house and moved there with his family.
When Nolbu heard about his brother’s good luck, he was very jealous (妒忌的) and decided to do the same as his brother. He also found a bird, but he broke its leg
and looked after it until it became strong. The bird also gave him a seed, which produced several gourds. However, when Nolbu opened one of the gourds, goblins (小 妖精) quickly came out of it and stole all his money. After that Nolbu went to his brother to ask for help. Hungbu was sorry for him and so he invited him to share his house. Both brothers and their families lived happily ever after.

A habit is a usual practice. Everyday activities become habits for most people. For example, Mark wakes up every morning and reads his newspaper with a cup of coffee. People in different countries have different cultures. Cultures have certain habits as well. In North America there are many habits which are different from those
in other countries. The way we eat is one example. An American might eat toast (烤面 包) or eggs for breakfast, but in Asia people might eat rice and soup for breakfast.
If someone’s habit troubles you, it is called a pet peeve (不能忍受的事). A pet peeve can be considered rude by another. Cross-culturally you’ll find many different pet peeves. Spitting (吐痰) on the street or bumping into (碰到) someone without
saying ―excuse me‖ might be considered rude. Wearing improper clothes or saying something at the wrong time can also be a pet peeve.
In the United State it is rude to cut in line, which means to step ahead of someone who has been waiting longer than you. Americans will generally form a line if more than two people are waiting.
