Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel through time'? For many years, people have written stories and made movies about time travelers. Though there are many stories about time travel, it is not just a made-up idea. Time travel is an important field of study for scientists all over the world.
The only time traveler in history is an astronaut named Sergei Avdeyev. Sergei spent about two years circling, or orbiting (绕轨道行驶) Earth. During those two years, he traveled at 17,000 miles per hour. That means he traveled almost 300 miles each minute!
Moving at a high speed for a long time put Sergei a second into the future. Why? If an astronaut goes very fast in space, nearly the speed of light, time will pass more slowly for him than for people on Earth. By the time he lands on Earth again, his watch will show a time that is a little be hind the time of the people on Earth.
While moving forward in time appears to have happened to Sergei, moving back in time may not be possible. A person would have to travel faster than anything anyone has ever seen. This is a part of science that no one understands yet. All
