He was happy in his job as a university lecturer, but the others were probably all lawyers, accountants and bankers. Who would be there at the reunion? He wondered. He was proud that he had studied there and glad to be back, but at the same time sad that the college was no longer part of his life, sad that he couldn't bring back those days which meant so much to him.
The porter gave him a key to a room in the college. He couldn't believe it. It was his' old room. As he walked through the door, he was surprised to feel a tear rolling down his cheeks. He had never thought he would feel like this. He tried to remind himself that his times there had not always been happy, that there had been problems too. It was almost time for dinner, so he put on his black dinner jacket and bow tie and walked down to the dining hall, wondering if any of his old friends would be there.
He walked into the dining hall, and there she was. She had changed a little. The smile which had made him fall in love with her was still the same. But she was sitting with the man she had chosen to marry, the man she had chosen to marry instead of him. He had thought the pain had gone, but it hit him in the stomach like a boxer's punch. Was it wrong for him to have come back? Or should he ...?
