作文 At the beginning of the year, my parents bought me a computer as a gift. I like it very much, for it has changed my life a lot. First, it’s a good help to my study. I can improve my lessons with software. Besides, I can collect necessary information from internet, which helps increase my knowledge. Then, it also brings me a lot of fun. I’m fond of computer games and enjoy chatting with friends on line. In fact, I often send e-mails to my friends, telling then about what I think of or feel in my life. I think I can make good use of it and I won’t spend too much time on games.

M: What’s the time for departure?

W: 5:30. That only leaves us 15 minutes to go through the Customs and check our baggage. (text3)

W: I’m not feeling very well. But I don’t know why.

M: It’s nothing seirours. You’ll get over it as long as you keep on taking this medicine. (text4)

M: Why do you say that?

W: You see, there is always something exciting to do, and it’s never boring.

M: My place isn’t boring, either. You can fish, hike, grow vegetables, and all kinds of things if you like, though it’s small and quite.

W;I guess so, especially here in New Zealand. (text7)

W: Hello, Mr Richard. I’m from the Science Daily. My first question is when you began to have the idea of helping AIDS patients.

M:To tell you the truth, I didn’t have any sort of idea of what I would do at all when I left school at the age of 16. Then I have found a simple job in a small medical lab. Back then, I never dreamed that one day I would help discover a medicine that would help millions of families.

W;Then what caused your great change?

M: I loved lab work, so I went to college at night and worked at the lab during the day. After 12 years, I went to work at a medicine company, where I began to do research on a medicine to treat AIDS patients. For me, a drug saves more than a life. It can save millions of families. W:I couldn’t agree with you more. (text8)

M:Excuse me. I’m a reporter from China Daily. I want to know what types of newspaper people often read. Would you mind answering a few questions?

W: No, not at all. M:Can you tell me where you are from, please? W: Er, I was born in Japan and grew up in Italy.

M: Oh, sounds interesting. Are you used to living here, in New York city? W: Very much so. I’ve been working in a college for 3 years.

M: Oh, a college teacher. And when do you normally read newspapers? W:Well, I’m busy during the day, so usually after 8:00 at night. M: Which sections do you prefer?

M: I’m mainly inerested in the shopping. Other than that, I also like the news. (text9)

M: Hi, Rose. I just come back to my office. I went out for lunch, anything new? W:Dan, I’d like you to come home. The storm is really terrible. M: What happened?

W:The storm blew down the power line; the electricity went off. The children are crying in the dark, and I don’t know what to do.

M: Oh, dear. I’ll call the electricity company in a minute. W:Would you come back right now? I need you. M: Ok, I’m leaving the office right away. W:Remember to get some candles. M: All right. I’ll be home as soon as I can.

W:Bye. (text10)

Deep Springs is an American college. It’s an unusual college. It is high in the White Mountains in California not in a college town. The campus is a collection of old buidings with no beautiful classrooms. The only college-like thing about Deep Springs is its library.

高一英语试题 第( 13 )页 共 11页

Students can study from the 17,000 books 24 hours a day. The library is never crowed as there are only 24 excellent boy students at the college. And there are only 5 professors. These teachers believe in the idea of the college. They are not well paid. In fact their salaries are only about 9,000 dollars a year. The college gives the teachers and students something more important than money. There is no place like Deep Springs. Students are there to learn and they cann’t run away from problems because there is no place to escape to. At most colleges, students can close their books and go to a film, but the students in Deep Springs have completely different activities. They can talk to each other or their teachers. They might go out for a walk in the desert. Deep Springs is far from the world of restaurants and cinemas. There is not even a television set on the campus.
