Activity: How many animals do you know? Look and say..
Purpose: Recognize different animals and come up with the new word “kitten” Performance
T: Look at the screen and tell me what animals you see. (Show the rabbit)Question: What’s this? Ss: It’s a rabbit.
T: Do you know how to say its babies in English? Ss: Bunnies.
Do the same procedure: duck, duckling; dog, puppy; cat, kitten Purpose: To show the meaning of “kitten” Step 2 Presentation (New words)
T: Look at these kittens, the first kitten is too small to see. What color is it? Ss: It’s pink.
T: Can it see anything? Ss: No.
T: So its eyes are closed, just like these. (Close eyes) I can’t see anything. And then, the kitten grows up. Look at its body, it has white fur. Its fur feels so soft. What about its eyes? Can it see anything now? Ss: Yes.
T: Finally, after eighteen days, the cat can walk. Maybe, it can play with someone. (First reading)
T: Sarah also has a cat, and her cat has two kittens. Let’s look through Sarah’s diary. Activity 1: Listen to the tape and try to match the correct words. Purpose: To know the summary of the article. (Second reading)
Read the article again and answer the questions.
T: How many diaries does Sarah write about the kittens? Ss: Four
T: We have four groups, each group could choose one day’s diary and answer the question.
Group1: April 15th
Group2: April 21st Group3: April 26th Group4: May 3rd
After that, I will select someone to the blackboard and circle the keywords.
Purpose: Have an intensive reading, read the text with questions. The teacher could explain the new word when students circle them as the keywords. (Third reading)
T: Let’s do a summery of the diary. Here is a form, can you complete the form by using the words that on the screen? Activity 2: Complete the form.
Purpose: Let students comprehend the article and make a simple summary. Step 3 Practice (Forth reading)
Activity 3: Fill in the blanks.
T: Find the details in the article, and fill in the blanks. If you know the answer, please finish the sentence on the screen.
Activity 4: Write the diary about tadpoles and talk with other groups.
T: Here are some pictures of tadpoles, and we can see that tadpoles change into the frog. But how does a tadpole change? Can you write a diary about it? One group write one day is okay. Step 4 Homework 1. Finish your diary.
