If you're into sports, you've seen it happen-tennis players jump over the net to shake hands after a hard match; football players exchange jerseys (运动衣) after ninety minutes of knocking

17

each other around; even boxers touch gloves at the beginning of each round. Players in every event, from spelling bees to golf (高尔夫球), act in this way. It's all part of sportsmanship (体育精神), a great tradition in sports and competition. It means playing and being calm all through the match.

Everyone feels great when they win. In the last few years, you might see some players celebrate a goal(进球) with a long victory dance or talk big about their ability. However, it's always hard for people to say in public that they made a bad play.

Good sportsmanship is what they really need. It's the golden rule of sports. Good sportsmanship means that you play by the rules, talk politely to everyone during games and stay cool even when you lose the game. At the school sports meeting, for example, it's more important for you to know how to work as part of a team and cheer your teammates on. That may help you enjoy more success at your future work. In competition-as in life-you may not always win, but believe me, sportsmanship will help you get through, and there is always the next match. 51. What match do you know will last ninety minutes?

A. Tennis. B. Football. C. Golf. D. Spelling. 52. The underlined word \

A. fly. B. competition. C. guess. D. research. 53. Why do you think good sportsmanship is really important?

A. It's all part of sports. B. It's all part of celebration. C. It's the golden rule of sports. D. It's how to stay cool. 54. Winning the game will make it possible for players to ________.

A. celebrate a goal. B. exchange jerseys. C. shake hands. D. feel great.

55. The passage mainly tells us that sportsmanship gets you through no matter whether ________. A. you win or lose. B. you play or learn. C. you are happy or not. D. you feel hard or not.

The spread of Western eating habits around the world is bad for human health and for the environment.

As nations developed, population increased and earning(收入) rose, more people began to adopt(选用) what had been called the Western diet. The Western diet is high in sugar, fat, oil and meat. By eating these foods, people began to get fatter and sicker.

In the Western diet, about 400 or 500 calories(卡路里) more than people need are eaten a day, and that leads people to put on weight. Overweight people have more chances for the diseases like heart disease and some cancers. Heart disease is a main cause of death in the Western countries.

Unfortunately when people become rich, if they adopt this Western diet, they are going to have these same health problems. Now in Asia, people have them more likely than in the West. China is an example where the number of heart disease has jumped. And that is happening all across the world, in Mexico, in Nigeria and so on, just nation after nation.

And, a diet bad for human beings, it seems, is also bad for the environment. As the world‘s population grows, more forests will become farmland for crops or grasslands for cattle. These

areas will be needed to produce more food. Because of this change in diet, in the future the greenhouse gases from these areas will be more than all that which right now comes out of all kinds of transportation such as cars, airplanes, boats and ships. So our change in diet is likely to be

18

worse for the world and for the weather warming than all the transportation we use now. 56. What‘s the meaning of the underlined word ―transportation‖ in Chinese? A. 生物 B. 交通工具 C. 饮食习惯 D. 污染 57. From the passage, we know that the Western diet ______________.

A. includes less sugar, fat, oil and meat B. helps people keep fit

C. is helpful for our health D. has much more calories than people need 58. Why has the number of heart disease in China increased quickly? A. Because more Chinese people have adopted the Western diet. B. Because the environment in China has been polluted. C. Because China is becoming richer and richer.

D. Because heart disease is happening all over the world. 59. What will happen when the world‘s population increases? A. The Western diet will become more and more popular. B. More and more people will become overweight. C. More farmland and grasslands will be needed. D. More greenhouse gases will be produced. 60. The main idea of the passage is ____________. A. Western eating habits are bad for human health B. Western eating habits are bad for the environment

C. Western eating habits are bad for both human health and the environment D. the spread of Western eating habits may produce more greenhouse gases

Gabriella has spent the past year doing everything she could to help other kids. The 11-year-old girl raised thousands of dollars for a group --- which makes sick kids‘ wishes come true. She‘s given money to cancer(癌症) research, and worked hard to help people understand cancer better. She‘s also given her hair to a group--- which makes wigs(假发) for kids who lost their hair.

In the end, Gabriella‘s effort raised $275,000 for the wishes group --- enough to pay for wishes for about 36 other kids.

Since then, Gabriella has given speeches about cancer to thousands of people. She‘s busy – but never too busy to figure out new ways to help others. Her family has even started a charity to raise money to cure(治愈) cancer like hers. Gabriella says, ―My saying is: ?You might have a bad day
