收件人:liming@yahoo.com 主题:Good Manners in the US Dear Li Ming,
How are you getting along? Are you busy with your English study? I learn from your e-mail that you will go to the United States to study next month. What a good opportunity! Congratulations! However, you told me that you knew nothing about the manners in the US.
We just learned an English text about it. So I think I can give you some advice. The cultural differences between Chinese and Western societies can create misunderstandings. You’d better pay special attention to it. First of all, you should face the word of Americans with confidence. Don’t be over modest. If someone offers compliments to you, the correct
response should be“thank you.” And though your English is not very good, don’t always apologize for it.
In America, people thank others for the smallest and most ordinary things .so don’t forget that ,or you’ll give bad impression on them. Another thing you should remember is that you shouldn’t ask Americans about their personal questions ,such as “How old are you? (esp. to women)” “How much do you earn?” “Are you married?” or “Why don’t you have children?” those questions will annoy the Americans .the safe topic is the weather. You can talk about it without hurting anyone.
I have many things to tell you but I don’t think the letter sheet is long enough to contain everything. Maybe after a few days staying in the US, you’ll be familiar with the customs there and get used to it. Good luck! I’m looking forward to hearing from you. Yours, Tom

English Department XFLU Xi’an Dear jack:
Thank you for your better dated…. I’m glad to learn that you will buy a new apartment, but I have to give you my advice about it. In my opinion, apartment B would be better for you. According to the information you mentioned, it is larger than Apartment B would be better for you. According to the information you mentioned, it is larger than Apartment A, and it is cheaper, It has 3 rooms and is surrounded by lawns in a community, that is to say, it is in a very good environment. Although it is in the suburbs of the city, it is easy for you to go to work for the community has convenient traffic services. The most important thing is that it is not so expensive that you can afford it. So my idea is that you ought to buy Apartment B. I’m looking forward to hearing your decision.
Take care, Jeffery
练习册:
Dear Sang Lan,
I’m a student of a technical school. I’m 16 years old.
Just now I read an article about you and I couldn’t hold back my tears, you were such an excellent gymnast and you used to have so many beautiful dreams. But the accident cruelly changed everything in your life. How unfair the fate is! However, you are not an ordinary girl. You finally face it bravely. I’m so proud of you. I think that every Chinese is proud of you as well.
Life is not all roses, sometimes it is a hard and tortuous journey. No matter what happens, we have to march forward. It is the only way we youth should take during our growth.
Everyone is the master of his or her own fortune. I believe that your dream of going back to gymnastics as a coach will be realized in the near future.
We are almost of the same age, but compared with you, I feel ashamed of myself. I’ll learn from you and face the difficulties in my study and life bravely as you do.
Let’s work hard together and become good friends. I hope that you will recover soon. Best wishes! Yours, Susan
