W: Well, I wanted to ask your advice about our school paper. But if you're busy, I'll wait until an other time.
M: Your school paper? Sounds pretty interesting. Why don't you drop by my house and we can talk about it?
W: Thanks. I'd like to. When may I come? M: What time do you finish school today? W: My last class ends at 2∶40.
M: Well, stop over on your way home from school, then. Will that be all right? W: Oh, yes. Thank you. I appreciate your time. M: Don't mention it.

W: Did you see the late night film on television yesterday? M: The one on Channel 8 ?
W: No, on Channel 5. It was about a couple who hitchhiked across the Sahara desert. M: No, I didn't. Was it any good?
W: Well, it was quite good, I suppose, but all those miles of sand did get a bit boring after a while. I think I prefer horror films to travel stories or love stories.
M: I went out for a meal with my friends. They took me to a Greek restaurant. W: Sounds unusual! What was the food like? M: Actually, I quite liked it.
W: I'm not keen on foreign food myself. I'd rather stick to roast beef or just fish and chips. M: Yes. I noticed you always eat chips ! Don't you ever get sick of chips? W: No, never. In fact, I'd rather eat chips than bread.
M: Well, I prefer trying new food to eating the same old things day after day.
W: I see. So you won't be coming to the café at lunchtime with me, then. You'd rather eat on your own, right?
M: Well...

(Text 8)
M: Did you hear that interview last night on the radio with the bungee jumper whose elastic cord broke after he jumped off a bridge?
W: No. I was too busy to listen to the radio. Was he killed?
M: It's totally incredible that he could have survived the jump. Much less to live to give an interview about it on the radio.
W: No kidding. That's horrible. I don't even know if I would want to be alive after something like that.
M: Well, this man sounded fine on the radio, but apparently he had suffered quite a bit when it happened.
W: So how did it happen?
M: He forgot to check the line before he jumped off the bridge. When he jumped there was a weak spot on the bungee cord and it just snapped into two pieces. Everybody figured he had died. When they brought him to the hospital, the doctors said he would be in a wheel chair for the rest of his life, but he proved them wrong.
W: How much time did he spend in the recuperation?
M: He spent a year in recovery while his bones healed, most of which had been shattered. As soon as he was back in shape, he went right out and tried it again.
W: Ah. Gosh, some folks are just nuts.
M: That may be tree, but you have to admit he has a good spirit.
