Learning aims:

1. To master the usage of some new words and phrases in the text. 2. To figure out the sentence structure of difficult sentences.

1. injure vt. 伤害、损害

injury n. 伤、伤口、伤害do an injury to sb. 伤害某人

injured adj. 受伤的 get injured 受伤 the injured 伤员 辨析: injure , wound , hurt

injure多指意外事故造成的伤害,也可指对名誉、地位的损害。

wound指人在战斗中、攻击中受伤,身体上出现明显的伤口,多指枪伤、刀伤、刺伤等皮肉之伤。 hurt 多指精神上受到伤害,也可指身体上的疼痛。

harm指身体上或精神上的损害或对周围的事物的危害。意为“伤害,损害,有害于”。常用短语do harm to 对……有害

1) prep. 除……之外(还有)= in addition to

2) adv. 而且,还有,况且(其含义相当于in addition to , 起进一步补充说明前面所说内容的作用)

e.g. I am too busy to go for a walk . Besides , it is late. ___________________ 比较: besides , except , but , except for , except that besides 表示一种累加关系,意为“除了……之外,还有…”,句中常有other , more , others ,also , else等词。

except 对同类事物的排除,表示仅有某事物不包括在内。

but “除……之外”,其意义与用法与except 相似, 多与nobody , none , no one, nothing , anything , everyone, all 等连用。

except for “只不过,除……之外”,说明整个基本情况后,对细节加以修正,其后的宾语一般与句子所涉及的东西不属于同类。

except that 和except for 一样也是对前文作修正说明,但except that 后接从句。 Exercise:
