拜伦爱情诗《She Walks in Beauty》研读与汉译
下面是他的一首爱情诗《She Walks in Beauty》。
She Walks in Beauty
by George Gordon Byron
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace raven
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens or her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.
And in that cheek, and or that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A maid at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
(all是主语,不及物动词Meet是谓语,表示“相会”、“合在一起”、“融汇”;that’s best of dark and bright
是定语从句,that’s即that is.
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
