3.B their parents adored是the pop band的定语从句,adore意为“崇拜,爱慕”。

happen

to do sth.

19.D 这里考查了not only...but (also)...

由第二段第一句“The main theme is a teenage search of self-discovery...”

第二段中的“...James’ swimming coach says to him...”

由文章第四段第二句“The only clue he has is a fossil...” A项与本文最后一段中的“As a...also provides its readers with a happy ending.”不符;B项与文章第一段第一句“...but also rural England(the countryside) including remote English villages.”不符;D项与第四段第一句“The turning point in the story comes while James’ foster parents are away in London...”

Keep the scene going to the best of your ability.

Sometimes embarrassment is the toughest method of memorization. Ⅳ.One possible version:

Dear Miss Kate,

Last weekend,I together with many students joined in a meaningful activity in which all of us provided many services voluntarily for Dongfang Community.

First we went to some main streets and helped people do a thorough cleaning. And then we went to the sports center, where different sports facilities needed polishing. When the cleaning work was done, the community looked really neat and tidy.Besides,we put on many wonderful and interesting programs for the people, which brought them laughter and happiness. And the most important,we also publicized much knowledge of traffic safety and popular science.

Tired as we were,we felt happy as all of our work paid off.As to me,I won’t forget the day because of its great value for my growth.

Yours, Li Hua

How is it that siblings (兄弟姐妹) can turn out so differently? One answer is that in fact each sibling grows up in a different family. The firstborn is, for a while,an only child, and therefore has a completely different experience of the parents than those born later. The next child is,for a while, the youngest, until the situation is changed by a new arrival. The mother and father themselves are changing and growing up too.One sibling might live in a stable and close family in the first few years;another might be raised in a family crisis, with a disappointed mother or an angry father. Sibling competition was identified as an important shaping force as early as in 1918.But more recently, researchers have found many ways in which brothers and sisters are a lasting force in each others’ lives.Dr.Annette Henderson says firstborn children pick up vocabulary more quickly than their siblings. The reason for this might be that the later children aren’t getting the same one-on-one time with parents. But that doesn’t mean that the younger children have problems with language development.Later-borns don’t enjoy that much talking time with parents, but instead they harvest lessons from bigger brothers and sisters, learning entire phrases and getting an understanding of social concepts such as the difference between “I” and “me”.

A Cambridge University study of 140 children found that siblings created a rich world of play that helped them grow socially.Love-hate relationships were common among the children.Even those siblings who fought the most had just as much positive communication as the other sibling pairs.

One way children seek more attention from parents is by making themselves different from their siblings, particularly if they are close in age.Researchers have found that the first two children in a family are typically more different from each other than the second and third.Girls with brothers show their differences to a maximum degree by being more feminine than girls with sisters.A 2003 research paper studied adolescents from 185 families over two years, finding that those who changed to make themselves different from their siblings were successful in increasing the amount of warmth they gained from their parents.

1.The underlined part “in a different family”(in Para.1) means “ ”. A.in a different family environment C.in different family crises

B.in a different family tradition D.in different families

B.learn a lot from their elder siblings D.pick up words more quickly

2.In terms of language development,later-borns . A.get their parents’ individual guidance C.experience a lot of difficulties

3.What was found about fights among siblings? A.Siblings hated fighting and loved playing. B.Siblings in some families fought frequently. C.Sibling fights led to bad sibling relationships. D.Siblings learned to get on together from fights. 4.The word “feminine” (in Para.4) means “ ”. A.having qualities of parents

B.having qualities of women

未准确理解题干中的要求,如有些题干中会提出“What’s the most magnificent...?” 又如题干“What’s probably discussed above the passage?” Ⅲ.七选五

Paying forward a little bicycle

A couple of weeks back,my friend had a yard sale, and she offered to sell some of our stuff for us.I thought it would be a good opportunity to clean my seven-year-old son’s room and get rid of some toys that he had long outgrown. 1 The night before the sale,we loaded up the truck with toys and a little bike that he was now too tall for.He had taken the bike for a final spin before we left home but happily put it on the truck for the sale. 2 It was not in the best shape and it certainly was not shiny new but it was still a bike, and the tires were still good.

3 So,after the sale was over,my friend put it on the sidewalk with a sign that said “FREE BIKE”.Within five minutes her doorbell rang.A little boy was standing there. His English was not very good but he asked if the sign was right...was the price of the bike really free? She said yes,she said that he could have it for nothing. 4 Later that evening when I told my son about the little boy that he got the bike for free. 5 He was so thrilled to hear that someone else would get good use out of that little bike. The bike was given to us,so in this way,I guess we got to pay it forward! A.We put a price of $10 on it but it didn’t sell. B.All passers-by thought it was too expensive. C.He smiled, jumped on the bike and rode away. D.The smile on my son’s face was truly priceless. E.This little bike had had at least two previous owners. F.He laughed at me as if I was the biggest fool in the world. G.We agreed that whatever we sold in toys would be his money.
