You’ll hear a conversation between a girl, Jodie, and a boy, Harry, about exams.
W: Hi Harry. You look terrible!
M: I don’t feel great, Jodie.
W: Is there something wrong? Have you been to the doctor’s?
M: No, I’m not ill. I’m just a bit tired. I’m probably not sleeping enough.
W: You shouldn’t go out so late then.
M: I’m not going out at all actually. I’m too busy studying.
W: Studying? But the exams are in two months.
M: I know, but I’ve got a lot to do. I didn’t do much last term. I wish I’d been more like you!
W: Well, yeah, I went to every class and I took lots of notes, but that doesn’t mean I’ll get good grades.
At least you don’t get nervous in exams like I do.
M: Have you started preparing for the exam yet?
W: Not yet. I’ll probably start next week, but I’m not going to stay up all night doing it!If you don’t sleep enough, you can’t concentrate and you don’t learn anything. Anyway you should have a weekend off.
M: I don’t think so. I can’t afford the time.
W: Of course you can! Why don’t you go to the cinema with me? Look at you!You used to be really fit!
M: I know, I do need more exercise.
Part IV. Passages
A) You will hear a passage. Choose the best answer to each question. The passage will be read twice. Woman:
The brain is the most amazing part of our bodies. But just like our bodies, it needs care. Getting a good night’s sleep, eating a balanced diet and taking deep breaths are all important ways of looking after both your body and your brain.
Many people think their brain will slow down with age and their memory will get worse. The truth is, just like your body, you can also improve your brain. I’ve found I can improve my memory by picturing what I need to remember. For example, if I’m going shopping and I need bread, milk and a birthday card for my brother, I picture a loaf of bread, a bottle of milk with a cow in the front and a birthday card with a football on it.
The same kind of thing can be used with important dates. If you have a picture in your mind of a special event it’s much easier to remember than just a number.
Another way of improving your mind is to make sure you often visit new places and have new experiences. I find learning Spanish is a great way to keep the brain working, but communication in any language is important.

Next month, students from the fashion department at Iffley College will hold an exciting show to collect money for children. They are putting on a fashion show and it will take place on Saturday 25th June. The show will be held in the new drama studio on the first floor of the college. Students themselves will wear the clothes. There will be different kinds of clothes on show. Something for everyone. The show will start at 11:30 am with a presentation of men’s fashion, which will include sportswear. There will be a short break for lunch at 12:30. The show will end at 2:45 pm with a presentation of the students’ own designs. Come and help children in need at the same time. It’ll be a fun day out!
