While coffee is the morning drink for many Americans, many Brits prefer to go to a cup of tea. You won’t often see us carrying white cups of coffee across the street during rush hour. Instead, we sip tea at home, a tradition that starts the day properly.

In my home and many other homes in the UK,the first person to wake up has to make the cups of tea for the family.

Tea has become part of our culture and one of popular stereotype(印象) about British people is that they often have afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes.

In reality, tea is a drink British people can have any time of the day to help them wake up,warm up,or relax.

When I first came to China and ordered tea,I was in for a big surprise and was introduced to a whole new world of tea. In the UK, it is common to drink black tea, which is imported from Africa, India, and Sri Lanka .It is very strong and bitter ,a taste which British people don’t often enjoy ,so people often add milk and sugar to create a sweeter, less strong flavor.

In China, however, there are wider rangers of tea available and each is enjoyed without adding anything . There is no tea bag,and certainly no milk or sugar,in these beverages. And people love it. However, for someone who is used to tea being sweet, it takes some time to get used to tea without sugar and milk.

While black tea is still the most popular, green tea has been getting more popular in the UK because people are becoming more aware (意识到的)of its health benefits. But the tradition of the tea bag is still going---it’s harder for us to have loose tea leaves than give up sugar and milk when drinking green tea.

21.where does the author come from according to the passage? A.The US B.The UK C. China D. India.

22.which is the following statements is true according to the passage?

A.Green tea is still the most popular in the UK.

B. British people often enjoy black tea with milk and sugar.

C. British people only have afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes.

D. Black tea has been getting more popular in the UK because of its health benefits. 23.what is this article mainly about? A.Coffee drinking in America. B. Different kinds of tea in China. C. Different kinds of tea in the UK. D.Tea drinking in the UK and China

There is a lot of bad news these days. But sometimes something happens that reminds you of people’s sign of goodness. It happened to me just the other day.

I arrived at my gym at 5:30 am for a workout, then came back at 7 am to go to work. But I couldn’t find my car .i walked back over to the parking signs and discovered oe saying that towing (拖车)started at 6:00 am. My car had been towed.

I called the number on the sign, but was told that they had no record of my car being towed. I waited a while and then decided to go into the building next to my gym, where I asked the woman behind the reception desk if she had seen my car towed .No, she had just come on at 7 am.

But she said: “Let me call the police station for you .” They still didn’t know where my car was.

I had started to turn away when she said: “ Well, I know a lot of the towing companies that tow around here.” She called Eastham’s down the street, but no luck.

So , again, I started to turn away. And she said: “Oh no, don’t go. I know some others I can call.” So she looked up the number for G&G Towing. Again,no luck.

She told me not to despair, looked up another towing company’s number, and called it. This time it worked. They said my car had been towed to a street in town that neither of us had heard of . So she printed me out a map, and gave me directions to get started.

All this took over 20 minutes. When I kept thanking her for help she repeatedly replied: “ Oh, of course I should help you .”

I did find my car and go to work that day. Since then,I haven’t forgotten this woman behind the reception desk. She extended , to a total stranger in need,a helping hand, Before I turned to walk away, I grabbed(抓住)both her hands and thanked her: “Many blessings to you.”

Perhaps Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) isn’t the most famous artist in the world, but his personal story is probably the most well-known. The paintings he created didn’t become famous until after he died. And this year marks the 125th anniversary of his death. An art exhibition , in which projections of more than 3,000 photos of the artist’s masterpieces are shown ,is in Beijing, until Dec 6. However, the paintings that made him famous after his death did little for him when he was alive.

Van Gogh was born to a rich family in the Netherlands. He started his career working for an art dealer (艺术品商)。But then he tried other things like teaching in England. He also tried to become a priest (牧师)but failed the exams.

Finally,he found something else to believe in when he lived in a small mining (采矿)town in Belgium--art. He returned to his childhood love of painting and drawing.

He was an important artist in a generation that challenged the Impressionist (印象派)style. Post-Impressionist, like Van Gogh, wanted to showed the world as it felt to them, not always as it looked.

Van Gogh used different forms and colors to make his art more abstract(抽象的).the way he used colors was especially impressive. In Wheatfield with Crows(1890),the color are very intense (强烈的). Corn is yellow, grass is green, and crows are black. But the colors are used in such a way that it looks better than a photograph.

Unfortunately , Van Gogh’s art wasn’t very popular while he was alive. He was poor and was thought to have mental problems, which led him cut off his ear and eventually die by shooting himself. Arguably, it wasn’t the art that gave him mental problems. What made him so sad may have been the difficulty of working as an artist in a practical world. 28. Which of the following is true about Van Gogh?

A. He was born to a rich family in the Netherlands 125 years ago. B.He was a teacher, a priest and a miner before he became an artist.

C.His paintings didn’t bring his much wealth or fame when he was alive .

D. He decided to be an artist when he discovered his love of painting at a young age. 29. According to the story, Van Gogh ________. A.Started to love art when he lived in Belgium.

B.wanted to show the world exactly by how he used colors. C.impressed people deeply by how he used colors.

D.became famous for his painting Wheatfield with Crows.

30. According to the author , what might have caused Van Gogh’s mental problems? A.The art of painting.

B. The loss of one car.

C. Pressure from his family

D.Not being accepted or recognized 31. .what is the best title of the passage? A. An artist’s sad story B.Wheatfield with Crows.

C.Childhood of Vincent van Gogh.

D.An art exhibition of Vincent van Gogh.
