It was time to go home. “Remember to work on your class speeches for homework,” Miss Walker called, as everyone started talking and packing their school bags. Jenny felt sick. Jenny knew she should just pick it up and return it to him, but she didn’t want to run after him. Jenny bent down quickly, picked up the watch and ran home. On arriving home, Jenny put it on almost without thinking. She was surprised it fitted so well. She walked to the mirror and started practicing her speech. Words just flooded out of her.“I’m going to talk about swimming. I have been lucky. I’ve won lots of competitions. But when I’m in a race, I’m not really thinking about winning. I’m just loving the feeling of being in the water…”Jenny laughed with excitement.She walked across the room. She suddenly seemed to have a certain sort of confidence. Turning back to the mirror, Jenny saw a flash of light from the watch in the glass. The flashes of silver seemed almost magical. So maybe Lee’s watch really DID have something magic about it.
The next day, as the lesson began, Miss Walker asked who was going to be brave and go first. Nobody moved. Jenny slowly raised her arm. Before Miss Walker could say anything, there was a shout from behind. “She’s stolen my watch!” Lee said angrily, “It went missing at school yesterday.”

In many societies，there is often greater acceptance of light skin than dark skin.Light skin may be seen as a mark of beauty，intelligence and success.These beliefs can lead to social pressure even within the same racial or ethnic group，if some members are darker skinned than others.
The result is that skin lightening has become a common activity across Africa，Asia and other areas of the world.More and more people with dark skin are using skin-lightening products，even if they may face health risks.
They believe that having whiter skin will improve their lives.Many people think they will have a better chance of getting a job or marrying into a better family.Or they want to look like what their society generally considers beautiful.
Some beauty care products and soaps contain chemicals that make skin lighter.This process is also called bleaching(漂白)．But some of the chemicals are extremely dangerous.One of the chemicals has been linked to kidney(肾) damage and some kinds of cancer.It also causes low birth weight in babies when mothers use it during pregnancy.
At first，bleaching products make the skin color lighter.But after long-term use they can cause problems.They can even make some skin darker.The chemicals in the products block and break down the natural process that gives color to skin.The skin loses its natural barrier to protect against sunlight.Then the skin can become thick and discolored.Usually the person will use more of the product in an effort to correct the problem，but this only makes it worse.
Doctor Ly，who works in a hospital，says the chemicals are now more dangerous because they are stronger.Some cases have resulted in blackened fingernails，infections and permanent skin damage.And these are not the only risks.Experts say some people who change their skin color suffer emotional damage.They feel regret and sadness.They feel that instead of risking their health，they should have learned to love and accept their skin color as it was.

Dear James,
Glad to share with you my latest participation in School Poetry Conference.Basically,the activity aims to offer us a further approach into Chinese poetry and help us form a better understanding of the traditional Chinese culture.During the activity,we chanted and appreciated the charming Chinese poems in various ways.Meanwhile,we enjoyed the great fun from our close interaction.For me,it was a meaningful experience,which turned out to be a fantastic journey into the world of Chinese culture as well as the inner world of ourselves.
