Debate broke out again when the two men reached the model home in the American Exhibition.

Khrushchev (referring to American model home): \
dumbfounded to see this? But I tell you all our modern homes have equipment of this sort, and to get a flat you have only to be a Soviet visitor, not a citizen.\

Would it not be better to compete in the relative merits of washing machines than in the strength of rockets? Is this the kind of competition you want?\

Nixon: \are. In others, we are stronger, but to me it seems that in this day and age to argue who is the stronger completely misses the point. We are both strong, not only from the standpoint of weapons but also from the standpoint of will and spirit.
尼克松：“对我来说，你们的确强大，我们也同样很强大。从某个角度来说，你们比我们更强大。但是从另外的角度看，我们反而要更强大一些。但是对我来说，争论谁更加强大是完全跑题了。我们都很强大，不仅从武器装备的角度来说如此，就算从意志和精神的角度来说同样如此。
\an ultimatum. For us to argue who is the stronger misses the point. If war comes we both lose.\
“不应该有任何人，试图运用自己的力量将另外一个人逼入绝境之中。争论谁更加强大是没有意义的事情。如果战争爆发，我们都是输家。”
Khrushchev: \all Americans agree with you, then who don't we agree [with]? This is what we want.\赫鲁晓夫：“再三的重申，我都认不出我的朋友尼克松先生了。如果所有的美国人都能够同意你的想法，那我们还有什么分歧呢？这恰是我们想要的。”
Nixon: \an accurate observer of the American scene. I hope the Prime Minister understands all the implications of what I have just said. When you place either one of the powerful nations or any other nations in a position so that they have no choice but to accept dictation or fight, then you are playing with the most destructive thing in the world.
