dynamically in real sense.Linguistic taboo has generally experienced three stages according to the history of human society: the primitive superstitious stage,the feudal patriarchal stage,and modem democratic stage.It should be pointed out that there is no explicit demarcation line between these three stages.
On the basis of the contents have been discussed I put forward some suggestions for F L T (foreign language teaching) and intercultural communication to contribute to reducing miscommunications and conflicts in intercultural communication, to improving teachers and students’ awareness of intercultural communication in FLT and to developing students’ Intercultural communicative competence to meet the rapid development of the technology of information and transportation. National English courses standard emphasize that English teaching should be overall quality education about one’s character and morals, thinking, language ability, perfect personality, cultural knowledge, consciousness and so on.The important parts in English teaching are to understand cultural differences to enhance cross—cultural communication skills and to strengthen global consciousness.The English qualities include language knowledge,basic skills of hearing,speaking, reading and writing and the skill of applying English to communicate initially.Developing communication ability must deal with the relation between 1anguage and culture, understand and pay attention to cultural differences, and then student’ s language qualities can be improved really. Cultures in foreign language teaching include history and geography, local conditions and customs.traditional customs, life styles, literature and art, rules of conduct, moral standards of behavior and so on about the country in which people speak the foreign language. Getting in touch with and understanding culture of English country benefits understanding and using English, understanding national culture and developing world consciousness. During the process of teaching, teachers should expand the contents and scope about cultural knowledge gradually according to student’s characters of age and skill of cognizance. Teachers should let students to know the culture of English country and the differences between China and foreign countries. At the initial stage, cultural
knowledge of English country involved in teaching should relate to student’ s daily 1ife and can stir up their interests in studying English. At the senior stage, teachers should help students to expand field of vision through developing the fields in which students get in touch with foreign culture,which can improve students’ sensitivity and the skill of identification to similarities and differences between Chinese and foreign culture, thereby the cross—cultural communication skills can be advanced.
