Dialogue 1

Larry is asking Mike about how to start a career, Here is part of their talk. Background knowledge:

Information interview: This is an opportunity for you to learn about a particular profession by speaking with someone who worked in the profession. By asking this person questions about his or her work tasks, work environment, and personal/educational background, and how he or she obtained the position, you can learn about careers you may be considering. Language points:

1. Your career adviser can assist you with many aspects of your career development, including learning about occupations through research.

你的职业顾问可以在你的事业发展的各方面帮助你,包括通过研究了解你的事业。 assist sb with sth 在某方面帮助某人 help sb with sth

2. You can get the experience by conducting an information interview. 通过信息面谈你会得到一些经验。

Monologue 1

Lolita Villa, a career adviser, is giving a brief introduction to part-time work. 1. It can be less than an 8-hour wok in a fast food chain, a contractual project with a company, working freelance for a publication, a little business run on the side, or working on a retainer mode for any number of employers.

他可能会是在快餐食品连锁店的少于8小时的工作,和公司签订的合同项目,出版社的自由工作,额外做的小生意,或者是收取定金方式的工作。

This is due to two things: the changing corporate structure makes use of technology that requires more things to be accomplished at a faster rate than employers can hire or afford people to do it, and second, the new workforce culture is encouraging more people to take charge of their careers by going back to school, pursue larger pay checks by increasing their workload, and generally, focus less on company loyalty and more on professional self-development and self-cultivation.

1. You are applying for the vacancy we have for a Marketing Officer Trainee. 你在申请销售管理实习生的空缺。 1)apply for 申请

2. My reading of the job description suggests that a trainee probably start as an apprentice working closely with a well experienced marketing Officer, learning how to keep records, identify opportunities, and implement schemes and plans and, I suppose, gradually taking on more responsibility and exercising more initiative.

If you’re considering changing a job, listen to the following talk and maybe you will find something helpful in it.

1. As a general category, this includes word processing, data entry, calendar or appointment planning, basic billing and other administrative support tasks.

6. Either way, you will be making lots of phone calls and visiting lots of local businesses to make your pitch.

7. If you are working now, consider starting your freelance business on the side and working slowly toward independence.
