General about Report Templates
Report templates are very similar to Drawing templates except for a few basic items:
1) Report Templates cannot include any graphics. If you go to the Settings pull down menu and refer to “Template…” you will see the option “Display type” where you can define the template to include graphics or not. This option must be set to “Text” for a Report Template
2) In a Drawing Template, the Text Fields have a box around them (see Fig. 1) which makes them easy to identify from plain text. In a Report Template Text fields do not have a box around them (see Fig. 2) which makes them impossible to differentiate from plain text unless you double pick on them.

3) More commonly used in Report templates is the “Page Settings” option found under the “Settings” pull down menu (ie. Settings?Page).
This dialogue is primarily used to set the number of rows per page so that you can adjust this for different size paper.

Exercise – creating a Part List report which includes the part ID
We are now going to create an Xsteel report that will include the Xsteel ID number of the part and we will also make the report sort by this field.
The result will look something like this ?
The steps involved are as follows…..
1) Open the standard part_list report and Saveas to ID_part_list report.
2) Delete the AREA field from the Row TablePart, the associated “Area” and “m2
“ title text and AREA sum field in the Footer TablePart.
3) Move the PART_POS, PROFILE, NUMBER, MATERIAL and LENGTH fields (and associates title text) along to the right to fill in the gap made by deleting the AREA field.
4) Select the “PART_POS” field and associated “Mark” title text and right click and select “Copy”.
5) Now right click, select “Paste” and place them at the start of the report as shown in the example above.

6) Double pick on the copied “Mark” title text and change it to “ID”.
7) Now double click on the copied PART_POS field and select the ID field from the list and press “Modify.
8) There are now two fields with a Sort value of 1 (ie. The PART_POS and ID fields), so the report wont know which field to sort by. In this case we want the report to sort by the ID field so we will leave the ID field with an Order value of 1 and change the PART_POS field to have an Order value of 2.
9) Save the report.
