Abstract: With distinctive peasant temperament, Xiangzi came to Peking after the impoverishment of the economy. Having a strong body ,he dreamed of “being an independent labourer” by honest physical work. This dream itself was not harmonious with the surroundings. It was the value concept and way of the behaviour of the small producers that guideed to struggle firmly, this, in the background of the city culture ,made his simplicity, honesty and firmness appear as foolishness, dullness and “not rhyme”. The diaplacement of the character and surroundings somehow leaded to Xiangzi’s final tragedy. Only in this way, not only does Luotuo Xiangzi disclose and criticize, but it also embodies rich implication of tragedy.
