How often do you let other people’s nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, impolite waiter, rude boss, or an insensitive employee 16 your day? One day I was in a taxi and we headed 17 the airport. We were driving in the 18 lane when suddenly a black car drove out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver pressed hard on his 19 , and at the very last moment our car stopped and 20 the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, looked around and started 21 at us. My taxi driver just 22 and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was 23 , so I said, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!” This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call \of the Garbage Truck\

He said, “Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of 24 , anger and disappointment. As their garbage 25 up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on 26 . Don’t take it personally; just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Believe me. You’ll be 27 .”

So I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and 28 it to other people at work, at home, or on the street? It was then that I said, “I don’t want their garbage and I’m not going to spread it anymore.”

Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with 29 . The mark of your success is how quickly you can refocus on what’s 30 in your life. A study shows that 31 you remember bad things more often than good things in your life, you’ll think of bad things more 32 . So love the people who treat you right. Ignore the ones who don’t. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you 33 it!If you follow “The Law of the Garbage Truck”, you take back control of your life. You make room for the good by 34 go of the bad.

A

One day when I was 5, my mother scolded me for not finishing my rice and I got angry. I wanted to play outside and not to be made to finish eating my old rice. In my angry motion to open the screen door with my foot, I had kicked back about a 12-inch part of the lower left hand corner of the new screen door. But I had no regret, for I was happy to be playing in the backyard with my toys.

Today, I know if my child had done what I did, I would have scolded my child, and told him about how expensive this new screen door was, and I would have delivered a spanking (打屁股) for it. They never said a word. They left the corner of the screen

door pushed out, creating an opening, a breach (裂缝) in the defense against unwanted insects.

For years, every time I saw that corner of the screen, it would constantly remind me of my mistake. For years, I knew that everyone in my family would see that hole and remember who did it. For years, every time I saw a fly buzzing in the kitchen, I would wonder if it came in through the hole that I had created with my angry foot. I would wonder if my family members were thinking the same thing, silently blaming me every time a flying insect entered our home, making life more terrible for us all. My parents taught me a valuable lesson, one that a spanking or stern (严厉的) words perhaps could not deliver. Their silent punishment for what I had done delivered a hundred stern messages to me. Above all, it has helped me become a more patient person and not burst out so easily.

36. When the author damaged the door, his parents __________. A. scolded him for what he had done C. told him how expensive it was

B. gave him a spanking D. left the door unrepaired

37. How did the author feel every time he saw the damaged door? A. He felt it destroyed the happy atmosphere at his home. B. He found that his family members no longer liked him. C. He felt ashamed of his uncontrolled anger at that time. D. He felt he had to work hard to make up for the damage. 38. The experience may cause the author ___________. A. to have a better control of himself parents’ will

C. to hide his anger away from others future

39. What is the main idea of this text?

A. Adults should ignore their children’s bad behavior.

B. Silent punishment may have a better effect on educating people. C. What is the best way to become a more patient person.

D. Parents are the best teachers of their children.

Breathe, wave and smile. Along with more than 300 other seniors, I marched into the stadium on the afternoon of May 10. The audience burst into deafening cheers. The huge stadium shook with all the whistling and clapping.

It was as if a Hollywood superstar had walked on stage. And indeed, every single senior that day was a star of the moment. Each deserved it. The seniors had been preparing for four years for this once-in-a-lifetime moment—the graduation ceremony.
