The Population Changes in China
As described in the chart, we can see that dramatic changes with regard to the population in rural and urban areas have taken place in recent years. According to the figures above, the number of people living in countryside declined, while the past two decades have witnessed a sharp rise in the population of cities, from 300 million in 1990 to more than 660 million in 2010.
What accounts for the above-mentioned fact? As far as I am concerned, at least two driving factors behind it could be as follows. First of all, it is believed by many working-age adults that more job opportunities can be created, so people are moving to cities. As we know, career plays a crucial role in one’s life. Secondly, studies have shown that individuals are likely to have access to better health care and education, when they settle down in cities. As a result, living in cities makes our life more colorful and convenient.
