Unit 2 How often do you exercise?
The First Period
Teaching aims:
1. Learn and master the new words: housework, hardly, ever, once ,twice, Internet, program. 2. Know some forms of free time activities and discuss about them by using the knowledge they have learned.
3. Learn how to talk about how often you do things. Teaching important points 1. Key vocabulary
Watching TV, reading , shopping, every day, once a week, twice a week. surf the Internet, etc.
2. Key sentence patterns What do you do on weekends? I usually watch TV. Do you go shopping?
No, I never go shopping. How often do you watch TV? I watch TV every day. Teaching methods: Discover methods.
Communicative approach .Pairwork. Listening and reading methods. Writing methods. Teaching aids:
PPT,some pictures from the Internet, A tape recorder, multimedia,etc. Teaching procedures Step 1 Greet the class
T:Is every here today? Let’s go on to learn “Unit2 How often do you exercise?”
Step 2 Make a list(1a)
First look at the pictures .Show some pictures from the Internet on the screen.Ask a few students to say what they see in the thought bubbles. Each thought bubble shows something what
a person does in weekends.
Then make each activity. Ask students to repeat each one.
Point out the sample answers. Then ask students to list all the activities in the thought bubbles.
Then ask the students who finishes first to write the answers on the blackboard.
Check the answers on the blackboard and ask students to correct their own activities.
Step 3 Presentation
Display a large calendar that show the days of the week. Tell students Saturday and Sunday are the weekends. Ask students to repeat the word “weekend”. Then show three new words .

Listen to the conversation .The people
are talking about what they do in weekends . Please listen to the tape and write the activities behind the correct frequency words in the list .Make sure everyone understands what to do.
Play the tape for the first time, and the students only listen .Then play it a second time .This time ask students to complete the activities individually .And then check the answers in class. Step 5Pair work (1c)
First ask two students to read the sample in speech bubbles.
A:What do you do on weekends? B:I usually watch TV. A:Do you go shopping?
B:No , I never go shopping.
Now , work with a partner. Make your own conversation about the people in the picture .
Then let the students work in pairs.
Then ask some pairs to present their conversations to the class. Step 6 Listening(2a&2b)
1. Introduce some new words: once, twice, three times , program by show the ppt on the screen.
Introduce the listening material :This is an interview about what a boy named Cheng Tao usually does. Listen to the tape and number the activities. Now let’s listen to the tape and number the pictures.
2. Make sure the students understand the listening tasks. Then listen again and check the answers.
Step 7 Pair work (2c)
First ask a student to read the list of activities to the class .
