T:Look at this photo.It’s a photo of a classroom.(Point to the things and teach the new words.)The boys and girls put their things everywhere.This is the teacher.She is asking,“Is this your schoolbag?” Please show me your schoolbag.

Ss show their schoolbags.

Then the teacher teaches the new word “schoolbag”. Ss:Schoolbag,schoolbag,schoolbag.

T:What other things can you see in the picture?Can you see a pen/a pencil/an eraser??

The teacher talks with the class,writes the words on the blackboard and teaches the class to read.

2.The teacher writes the topic sentence on the blackboard and gets the class to read it.

T:Open your books and read the topic sentence after me.“Is this your pencil?” Ss:Is this your pencil?

Then the teacher takes the things one by one and asks the students to say the English words.

T:What’s this in English? Ss:It’s an eraser./?

The teacher shows the objects and gets the students to read the new words:pencil,book,eraser,pencil box,schoolbag,and dictionary,writes them on the blackboard and teaches them.

T:You can read them by using the pronouncing rules.For

example,dic-tion-a-ry,e-ra-ser,pen-cil.You should learn how to pronounce a new word by their spelling.

3.T:Please read the words in 1a and look at the things in the picture.Match the words with the things in the picture.

Ss read and learn the new words in 1a,match the words with the things in the picture by themselves and then check their work in class.

T:Read the words after me,and point to the things in the picture.e.g.“dictionary”.

Ss:(Point to “dictionary” and read)dictionary,dictionary.

The teacher should remind the students of the use of “a” and “an” before different nouns.

1.Before listening,the teacher takes a book from one student and says: T:What’s this in English? Ss:It’s a book.

T:Yes,it is a book.But it’s not my book.It’s not mine. Then the teacher repeats the new word:mine.(Point to the teacher himself/herself.)

T:(To a student)Is this your book? S1:No,it isn’t.It’s not mine. T:(To the owner)Is this your book? S:Yes,it is.It’s mine.

The teacher writes the word “mine”.So the students learn the new word “mine” and then the teacher teaches the other new words his/hers/yours in the same way.The teacher writes the main sentences on the blackboard.e.g.

—Is this your??

—Yes,it is.It’s mine./No,it isn’t.It’s not mine.It’s his/hers. —Are these your??

—Yes,they are.They’re mine./No,they aren’t.They’re not mine.They’re his/hers.

2.T:Listen to three conversations,please.For the first time,listen and tell which is the first,second,or the third.

Play the recording of the conversation.Get the Ss to perceive the situation of the conversation and pay attention to the words and sentence patterns.

T:Which is No.One?

Ss:The 3rd.

T:Why?By hearing what words? Ss:Are these??

The teacher asks questions to see if they hear the words his/hers/mine and teaches the students how to do the listening tests.

3.Play the conversations again,ask the students to focus on the possessive pronouns mine/his/hers and repeat the conversations.

T:Now listen again to the three conversations and repeat after the teacher.Please imitate the pronunciation and intonation.

Play the tape for Ss to listen and repeat.

After listening to the conversations,ask the class to read them aloud.

T:Now please read the conversations in 1b.You must learn how to read the general questions.

Ss read the conversations aloud.Then practice the conversations.

T:Now,imagine you are the boys and girls in the conversations.Work in pairs,and talk about things in the picture.Saying:

A:Is this/that your??

B:Yes,it is./No,it isn’t.It’s mine/his/hers. Or:

A:Are these your??

B:Yes,they are./No,they aren’t.They’re mine/his/hers. A:Is this your pencil?

Get the Ss to practice talking about the school things in pairs and in small groups.Then ask pairs of students to act out in class,using the things they have.
