IV Composition

1.Nowadays young people tend to phone more often than write to each other. So, some say that phone will kill letter writing. What is your opinion?

Write a composition of about 120 words on the following topic:

Will Phones kill Letter Writing?

The telephone has been very commonly used in people’s lives. We have phones at the office, at home, and in the streets. Everyday we communicate with our friends, co-workers, and bosses through phones. It is hard to image whether the world would go round without it. However ,phones will never kill letter writing.

There are several reasons. First, letters may do a better job when you have a lot to express to someone. Generally, people like to read letters from friends or relatives. For example, my parents are always looking forwards to letters from me. To them, letters can express more than the message, such as emotions, respect, etc. Secondly, letters seem formal. Thirdly, letter writing serves as an effective way to improve our writing skill though it takes time to organize one’s thoughts and express them clearly and logically. Thus , writing is a fine way to keep in touch ,and makes both sender and the receiver feel good. Letters, cards and postcards have the virtue of being tangible---------------friends can keep them and read them again and again for years to come. Besides, it is expensive to talk to someone in a foreign country over the phone.

So, although we prefer to use telephone when we have something urgent or less formal, we chose to write to keep contact with our friends for messages of no urgency. So it is obvious that letters will not be killed by telephones.

2.Write a composition on the topic “Why People Feel More and More Isolated ?”

Today ,our life is richer and richer, but the human relationship is becoming colder and colder. Why do people feel more and more isolated? In my opinion , it results from today’s fierce competition.

Although people generally agree that competition is good for economic growth because it makes people work harder and better, they , at the same time, find it might turn the society into a battlefield or a jungle where everyone is guided by the law of the survival of the fittest”, and that it might do great harm to human relationship. In order to get more and get sth better, people sometimes are not honest with others. Second, modern people value individuality, so it is difficult for people to folly understand each other ,as there is little common language among them. Thus they won’t communicate as often as possible, by and by they become strangers although they may be colleagues or next-door neighbours for years. so when they are in trouble, there is on one to turn to for help; when they are depressed, there is on one to turn to for a heart to heart talk. Besides, there are many gangs, murders and robbers lurking everywhere, each of us don’t want to get involved . In order to protect ourselves, we won’t be ready to communicate with others , let alone help others.

In a word, the strong consciousness to protect ourselves and the doubt of others make us more and more isolated. If there are fewer doubts and misgivings, if we are more willing to listen to others and help others ,we are sure to feel warmer and happier.

3Write a composition on the topic “The Best Way to Stay Healthy. ”

Nowadays people pay much attention to their health .and I think the best way to stay healthy is to do some exercise every day.

First, to do some exercise every day can help you improve your ability both physically and mentally.. With regular exercise, your physical condition is improved. So you can be stronger and healthier than before and thus you are likely to keep the epidemic disease away from you. And a healthy body helps you have a fresh mind , which means you can easily concentrate on your work. Second, to do some exercise every day can help you lead a regular life. You have to find some to do the exercise and arrange your time carefully. Day by day, it may develop into a habit .So a good habit and a regular life can help people stay healthy.

So everybody who wants to stay healthy should go out to do some exercise everyday.
