The swimming pool is a major feature of the Sofitel leisure experience and should preferably be highly visible and easily accessible to the guest with an attractive garden setting surrounding it. The swimming pool will be of overflow type. A free shape should be used rather than a squared shape. The swimming pool area will include a wadding pool for children, well separated physically or by railing. An adequate number of chairs, tables and sun lounges should be supplied, of good quality. Minimum facility requirements are; toilets and change areas and pool towel dispensary. A pool bar is required with adequate services and equipment for swimming pool deck servery. The pool deck should be adapted to outdoor party where market and conditions allow.

The pool itself must be secured from access by unauthorized persions and in particular young children not accompanied by an adult. Size and shape will be determined by the available area and landscaping design. An attractive theme is recommended, combining landscape, lighting and artwork. A non-slip surface should surround the pool edge for safety, and there must be at least one swimming-out staircase and one stepladder. An attractive painted or ceramic tile finish must incorporate depth indication at shallow and deep ends. Underwater low voltage lighting is necessary for evening use but should avoid shining on bedroom windows. Diving boards are not permitted.
