dinner与supper:

dinner意为―(中午或晚上吃的)正餐,主餐‖。supper意为―(通常指在家吃的)晚餐,晚饭‖。从意义上就可以看出dinner可以在中午吃,也可以在晚上吃,通常比较正式,比较丰盛。supper则较简单。在英式英语中supper也可以表示―夜宵‖。
