After taking this course, the students shall have relatively strong reading ability, certain listening and translation abilities, primary writing and speaking abilities so that they can use Russian as a tool to acquire information in their specialized field.
1. Pronunciation: read language materials similar to the text with correct pronunciation and
intonation
2. Vocabulary: have about 3,800 words of receptive vocabulary (including about 2,500 words of
productive vocabulary) and commonly used phrases composed of these words 3. Grammar (morphology and syntax)
4. Reading: have basic reading skills; understand articles of medium language difficulty and
comprehend the main ideas
5. Listening: understand short language materials with familiar topics, simple sentences, a few new
words and spoken at a speed of 60-70 words/minute; the main ideas of the materials are basically comprehended correctly.
6. Speaking: give brief answers to the questions based on the text and repeat the material with
some preparation
7. Writing: write a short essay of 80-100 words within 30 minutes with clear expression and no
major language mistake
8. Translation: translate short Russian essays at a difficulty level similar to the text to correct,
basically smooth and accurate Chinese translation without major language mistake.

Genetics is the science researching heredity and variation in living organisms, is not only theoretical science but also basic science greatly related to biological production. General Genetics is a key basic course for plant production specialties, which plays an important role in teaching program of this field. This course systematically describes the structure and function, transmission, expression and regulation, and evolution of the genetic material, covering basis of cytology for inheritance, molecular basis of the genetic material, Mendel’s laws of segregation and independent assortment, linkage and sex linkage, variations in chromosome structure and number, inheritance of bacteria and viruses, gene expression and regulation, gene engineering and genomics, gene mutation, extranuclear inheritance, developmental genetics, quantitative genetics, population genetics and evolution. Plant tissue and cell culture, one of the key techniques of modern biology, is thought as a basis of plant biotechnology. It has become as one of the most important courses for the university students majoring in the subjects of plant science and its application, grassland science, forest resource, environmental and ecological science, and other life science branches.
The course begins with the background introduction on the historical events in plant tissue and cell culture research and its applications in agricultural practice. The contents such as totipotency of the plant cell, basic techniques included in plant tissue and cell culture, organ culture, anther and pollen culture, plant cell culture, protoplast culture and fusion, plant germplasm conservation, and plant genetic transformation will be introduced in detail.
The course will help students to master basic concepts, theories, experimental techniques, research ideas, as well as to obtain new achievements in the field of plant tissue and cell culture.

This course introduces the basic concepts and methods of statistics with applications in the experimental biological sciences. The aim of the course is to give the participants sufficient knowledge and techniques how to build a data set by design of field experiments, how to analyze and interpret their data. Topics covered include general methods of field experiments, presentation of data (graphs and tables), descriptive statistics, probability distributions, estimation of parameters, hypothesis testing, the analysis of variance, simple linear regression, correlation, and the analysis of attribute data. Introduction to Molecular Biology is core course in Agronomy and Biotechnology College. The prerequisite courses are Genetics and biochemistry. The course will familiarize students with the principles and tools of contemporary molecular biology. By the end of the course, students will have a working knowledge of a variety of topics important in molecular biology, and a grasp of the underlying principles that is adequate for them to evaluate and use new tools as they arise in the future.
This course will focus on selected aspects of molecular biology that provide the students with the principles for understanding the structure of chromosome, DNA, transposon, the process of DNA replication, RNA transcription in prokaryote and eukaryote, translation in prokaryote and eukaryote, protein sorting and localization. It will familiarlize the students molecular biology techniques including DNA manipulation, sequencing, cloning, subcloning, library construction, screening, RNA isolation and characterization, analysis of expression, microarrays, gene chips and RT-PCR. Multiple modern day molecular biology techniques in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries will be highlighted. Several examples of molecular techniques will be demonstrated in case studies and examples. The students should mainly grasp the molecular mechanism of how the genes in prokaryote and eukaryote expressed and regulated. The principles of general molecular biology techniques should be mastered too.
This course leads the students into the palace of molecular biology by teaching with PPT and lots of discussion, which light and enthusiasm to explore molecular biology and raised the ability to analyze and solve biological problem logically.

This course is divided into four parts: basic molecular biology technology, method for nucleotide acid extraction, gene differential expression, and molecular maker. In part I, we begin by exploring the basic molecular method to form the foundation of biology technology, including the application of spectrophotometer, electrophoresis, radioactive isotopes, bioinformatics skills. In part II, we introduce the method for nucleotide acid extraction, DNA recombination, nucleotide acid blotting, DNA sequencing etc.. In part III, the technologies for gene differential expression research including mRNA differential display (DDRT-PCR), cDNA amplification fragment length polymorphism (cDNA-AFLP), suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH), serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE), representational diference analysis (RDA), Microarray, real-time PCR, DHPLC were introduced. In the last part, the principle and amplification of molecular marker are introduced.

Plant pathology is a required course for the students who major in agronomy in College of Agriculture and Biotechnology. The course makes plant pathology basic knowledge as the kernel. Its content comprises two parts. The first part mainly includes introduction to plant pathology, causes of infectious plant diseases, diagnoses of plant diseases, epidemiology and prediction of plant diseases and control of plant diseases. Another part mainly contains rice diseases, wheat diseases, cotton diseases, corn diseases, fruit tree diseases, vegetable diseases and other crop diseases. In the course of experiment teaching, we arrange six experiments in order to strengthen and improve the students’ understanding of plant pathology knowledge, to enhance their sensitibility cognition, to train their practical and experimental ability and to let them master the basic experimental skills of plant pathology.
