The course including cereal crops tissue culture technique, chromosome technique and molecular biology technique. The cereal crops tissue culture technique including anther culture, immature embryo culture, mature embryo culture, influencing factors of callus differentiation, preparation of culture medium technique, new advance of cereal crops tissue culture research. The laboratory course including anther culture, immature embryo culture and mature embryo culture. The chromosome technique including chromosomal preparation technique, chromosome karyotype Analysis technique, chromosome banding technique, chromosome situ hybridization technique, chromosome in cereal crops. The laboratory course including chromosomal preparation by root tip squashing method, chromosomal preparation by the flame drying protocol after enzyme digestion of cell wall, preparation of the permanent glass specimen of chromosome, chromosome micrograph technique and chromosome karyotype analysis technique. Molecular biology technique including molecular biology basic experiment operation, plasmid and application in molecular cloning, molecular marker and related technique and cereal crops transformation. The laboratory course including preparation of the competent cells of Escherichia coli and transformation, restriction endonuclease analysis of plasmid and demonstration of Southern blotting, recovering DNA from agarose gel and demonstration of operation of biolistics.

Molecular genetics research includes the study of inheritance and diversity of DNA sequences, and research outcomes are proving revolutionary in many branches of applied science. this course covers molecular genetic principles and techniques of special relevance to the areas of biotechnology. Students acquire a theoretical overview of DNA replication, transcription,translation and regulation of gene expression in prokaryote and eukaryote. Students will also acquire mechanisms of laboratory techniques associated with genetic manipulation and molecular marker development. All aspects of this subject, including the assessment mechanisms, are aimed to develop key professional skills for employment in production or conservation science research, development or extension.

Crop Cultivation Methods and Techniques is an important course to the students who majors Agronomy and the relative specialties. It is a applied course which presses close to actual agriculture practices, and directly transfers the scientific knowledge into productivities. It has the characteristics of complexities, practices and regions. This course will introduce the rules of crop plant growth and development, yield and quality formation, as well as the systemic knowledge related to the agronomy, in order to increase the abilities of students to resolve the practical problems and arise the productivities. In this course, the students can learn the relationships among crop plants, environments and artificial measures, and crop production systems. In a word, learning this course is an effective approach to master traditional and modern agricultural science and technology.

植物育种学 Plant Breeding

作物育种学是农学、作物遗传育种、种子科学与工程专业的骨干课程。本课程以作物育种的主要途径和重要目标性状选育为核心,并包含了育种目标、种质资源、种子生产等作物新品种选育全过程中涉及的主要工作内容。作物育种途径包括引种与选择育种、杂交育种、杂种优势利用、诱变育种、远缘杂交与倍性育种、生物技术在育种中的应用等。主要育种目标性状包括抗病虫育种、抗逆性育种和作物品质改良。本课程重点是作物育种途径和目标性状选育。通过本课程学习,使学生掌握作物的主要育种目标,掌握作物常规育种手段基本的操作过程和细胞工程、转基因技术、分子标记辅助选择等生物技术的基本原理,了解相关学科的发展对作物育种学的影响,理解作物育种学是一门随着科学和生产的发展不断发展的应用性科学。

Plant Breeding is the major course for undergraduate students of agronomy, plant genetics & breeding, seed science & engineering. Main ways of crop breeding and selection of important target traits are the core of the course, besides, the whole procedure of crop breeding such as breeding objectives, germplasm resources, seed production, et al. are included in it. The approaches of crop breeding consists of selection breeding, cross breeding, heterosis utilization, mutation breeding, distant cross and ploidy breeding, application of biotechnology in breeding etc. the main breeding objectives are as follows: crop breeding of resistance to diseases and pests, crop breeding of stress tolerance and breeding for improving crop quality.

植物遗传育种系所开设的“专业英语”目的是作物遗传育种专业本科生的限选课。课程采用自编教材,闭卷考试,主要通过英语学习遗传学,分子生物学和作物育种学方向专业内容方面的知识,特别是训练学生阅读、翻译本专业方向英文写就的学术论文的能力,初步实践用英文作简短学术讲演能力,初步用英文写学术论文的能力。本课程教材采用国外英文原文写的遗传和分子生物学和作物育种学的教材和参考书为内容,通过训练学生的快速阅读能力,捕捉中心思想能力,介绍拓宽科技英文的行文规则与习惯,常用文法和单词。介绍本专业常应用的单词与词组,并在每节课按计划利用一定时间训练记忆1000个单词。此外,本课程在按所编教授内容的外,还选读和介绍当前国际著名生命科学方向的学术论文,如“Cell”“Science”“Nature”“Plant Cell”和“Plant Physiology”等,与教材穿插讲授。并推荐在上述学术杂志上发表的在植物生物学领域带有前瞻性的最新动态与内容的综述性论文发给同学,使同学在课下练习独立阅读,翻译,并以此为内容学习做简短的学术讲演。

“Professional English” in Plant Genetic and Breeding Department is a restrict selection course for college students of Crop Genetic and Breeding specialty. The text book edited by ourselves and final assessment is via test sheet and joining process of this course. We will give several lectures, reading and comprehension material in genetics, molecular biology and crop breeding knowledge. We pay more attention in training student to get the ability to reading and translation this specialty English research papers and publications, including their making a presentation of professional aspects, in addition, their ability to writing English research papers. The material of this course was from publications of foreign textbook or publications about genetics, molecular biology and crop breeding. This course intends to train students the ability how to skip reading of English references and how to understand the main idea of papers, explaining the writing style, rules, of English academic papers. On the other hand, we will help students intensively to study almost 1000 new words and expressions shown in biological publications frequently, especially in class time. And more, we will introduce and let students take part in reading some papers of published in several famous biological academic magazines such as “Cell”, “Science”“, Nature”,“Plant Cell” and “Plant Physiology”. We also help students to choose their interested papers published some reviews about the perspectives and hot area conferring to crop genetics and breeding, so that students try to read and translate them into Chinese independently. Finally, let students do their best to make a short presentation by power point base on their references read and translated in homework.

杂草学Weed Science

Basic Weed Science is an introductory course in weed science, which covers identification, classification, and characteristics of weed species. The harmful and beneficial aspects of weeds will be explored. Weed management strategies, including cultural, mechanical, biological, and chemical methods will be discussed. Students will be introduced to classification and modes of action of herbicides, as well as the fate of herbicides in the environment. Ecology and biology of specific weeds will be discussed. The future direction of the field of weed science will also be considered.

作物品质生理 Crop Quality Physiology

“作物品质生理”为农学院选修课程。本课程重点讲授主要农作物品质形成的生理生 化机制,栽培学上对各种品质指标的调控方式和机理,以及关于食品安全的有关知识。本课程主要由以下四部分组成:粮饲作物的品质及栽培(包括禾谷类作物、豆科作物、薯芋类作物、饲料作物等)、经济作物的品质及其栽培(包括油料作物、纤维作物、糖料作物、嗜好作物等)、果蔬品质及栽培(包括水果、蔬菜)、农用化学药剂(包括化肥、农药、化学调控物质等)对作物品质的影响。通过授课使得学生对主要农作物生产中作物品质的重要意义有一定了解,并明确影响和调控不同作物品质的栽培学因子,各种品质因素与食品安全、人体健康之间的关系等,从而拓展学生的思路,开阔视野。

‘Crop Quality Physiology’ is an optional course of the College of Agronomy and Biotechnology. Main contents of this course are the physio-bio-chemical mechanism of crop quality formation, the control and improvement of crop quality through agronomic managements, and knowledge on food safety, etc. Four parts are given in this course, including: i) quality formation and cultivation technique of food crops (cereal crop, legume crop, root crop, and forage crop, etc.), ii) quality formation and cultivation technique of cash crop (oil crop, fiber crop, sugar crop, hobby crop, etc.), iii) quality formation and cultivation technique of vegetable and fruits, iv) effects of chemicals on crop quality (mineral fertilizers, pesticide, herbicide, plant hormones, etc.). This course aims to help students understand: i) crop quality is an important point in the modern crop production system, ii) how to control and improve crop quality through agronomic techniques, iii) relationship between crop quality, food safety, and human health. This course is going to enlarge the eyesight of university students by providing another new perspective for crop production.
